Cutaneous Larvae Migrane parasite: Is this rash related?

Posted by zoogdog @zoogdog, Oct 11, 2022

Hi, thanks for any input on this rash issue I'm having.. Feeling helpless.

In April 2022, I caught a parasite while in the Philippines. A biopsy revealed it was Cutaneous Larva Migranes infection (upper left leg by groin). I was given Ivemectin and the parasites died, had to repeat this again 2 weeks later because the dormant ones survived. They gave me a very red rash (see photo) that sort of went away. I have been trying to heal ever since but the specific area that was infected keeps flaring up and giving me a continued rash that temp goes away and then comes back. I'm guessing whatever toxins they left in that area keeps getting attacked by my immune system...but I'm not sure. I've been to 4 dermatologists and been prescribed multiple creams and lotions but nothin seems to work. If you know what this might be....please help me. Rash is always itchy and driving me nuts ! Thanks

Welcome @zoogdog, I did a search on Connect and didn't see any other members who have shared an experience with a Cutaneous Larvae Migrane parasite infection. I did find the following information that you might find helpful.

"TREATMENT. Cutaneous larva migrans is self-limiting; migrating larvae usually die after 5–6 weeks. Albendazole is very effective for treatment. Ivermectin is effective but not approved for this indication."

Do you think the parasite might still be causing the rash?

thanks John. All the online info doesn't mention the after effects of the parasites once they are gone unfortunately. Mine have been gone for several months now but my skin is having a really hard time healing in that area. The pic I posted is the rash that keeps appearing every couple of weeks, then goes away, then comes back, etc. It has been doing that for the last 4 months and is only in that area that was infected previously. It's as if my immune system keeps attacking whatever they left behind in my skin, patches turn red and itchy for about 6 to 10 days, then goes away but comes back in a week again and does the same thing. The parasite skin rash was slightly different and alot more itchy, I don't have them anymore, just skin that won't heal in that area for some reason.

Hi All, asking for help on what this is.. it's been coming and going for about 4 months now, lasts for about 10 days at a time. It's always in the same area of the upper left leg and doesn't spread. Thanks for any help you can give, it's incredibly itchy. Anti fungal cream doesn't help.
Thanks

Hi @zoogdog, I know it has to be extremely bothersome to have an itchy condition like you have. Here's an article that lists some possibilities in case you haven't already seen it.

Several members have found Dermaleve cream helpful for relieving constant itching. I know you mentioned you have tried many topicals. Have you tried this one?

@zoogdog, This has to be incredibly frustrating for you. Having an area that itches intensely almost unbearable!
I’ve read your previous post that you’ve been seen by 4 dermatologists and have only received lotions.
Have you had a skin biopsy on any of the areas that itch? It might be advantageous out check this out under a microscope.

Hi Lori, I did not get a biopsy yet but I guess that should definitely the next step since no one can figure it out. Thanks much
