Hi,
Yes , diagnosed prior to Christmas awaiting a follow up appointment.
Cheers
I was diagnosed a few years ago. What is your age and symptoms?
CSVD can be age related and as we get older everyone will have some degree of CSVD. I assume that you have had an MRI to arrive at the diagnosis. Did it specify what areas of the brain are affected and whether it is mild? Did it show any lacunar infarcts and whether they are chronic or acute? Are you asymptomatic? Do you also have CAD?
I'll be happy to share my experience with CSVD. A diagnosis of CSVD can be rather innocuous so there may not be too much to be concerned about, especially since there is no treatment any for CSVD at this time.
@angelfru1t What does the acronym CSVD stand for? How are you feeling about this diagnosis?
Hi. It’s Cerebral Small Vessel Disease. I spent a sleepless night researching and worrying about whether I will get a stroke or dementia like my late Mum but as it is out of my control will stop researching and let nature take its course. What will be will be.
I have had an anxiety filled day though but trying not to focus on it. We all get something when we are older (I’m 73).
Hi Keith
I’m 73. MRI wasn’t done for CSVD but for a glioma in the tectal plate originally ‘discovered’ in 2020 and had had no further MRI’s since then. That MRI didn’t show sign of CSVD.
So saw a neurologist who
compared my new MRI to the other one and said it was nothing of significance and wasn’t sure it was a glioma.
However he showed me the CSVD. I know morning about brains and all I can say it looked like 3 white dots on the left side and 3 on the right side. He said it was mild-moderate. I now wearing a 24 hour monitor for my blood pressure and he may have to increase/change my meds.
I can’t answer your other questions sorry.
Have been freaking myself by looking it up and imagining the worst!
Symptoms - not sure. I’ve suffered for years from anxiety and depression but don’t think it’s related? Otherwise nothing else I can think of.
Please share your story but be kind!
Thanks
If the neuro said it wasn't significant then I wouldn't be concerned. At 73 it would be unusual to not have some degree of CSVD. Since you are asymptomatic that's great!
I'm younger than you and am not as fortunate. I have severe CAD so the same mechanism that is clogging up my heart arteries is responsible for my CSVD and lacunar infarcts, and unfortunately am not asymptomatic.
Relax and enjoy life!
Oh Keith. Sorry to hear that. You never know what life is going to throw at you and we have to accept. Thinking of it I do have a few symptoms which may/may not be indicative of CSVD, like headaches, dizziness and occasionally I stumble but will go with the flow. All the best
Sorry to hear this but glad I am not alone. What stage is yours, mild or moderate? And what prompted you to get an MRI? Any symptoms?
I am 73 and mine was discovered by chance. My neurologist is doing a blood pressure review.
Hi Keith,
I am 48 yrs young and just been diagnosed with chronic CSVD after an mri scan - i have no symptons but am currently having tests to ID the cause as the usual risk factors- bp/diabetes smoking overweight does not apply to me im fit and healthy. I have had a number of bloods and an ecg-im awaiitng a 48hr bpmonitor ans ecg but as they say they cant reverse the damage impetrified of the cognitibe impairment side later or in the near future- im such a young age and have no idea what this disease holds for me - sorry to hear about yourself -
