Covid Recovery: How can I manage GI issues?

Posted by sieb369 @sieb369, Jan 3, 2022

It has been 5 weeks since my COVID symptoms began. I am well past the isolation date. I had nausea and diarrhea during COVID along with the usual symptoms of cough, fatigue, rapid heartbeat and sinus issues. I have felt like I was over this, but I began having GI pain in the last week. I feel as if my intestines are sore on the inside. I guess it is inflammation. Has anyone else had this and is there anything I can do to help it? Probiotics maybe?

COVID can cause many issues. It’s important to set up appointments with a primary care and then follow up with a specialist of the affected system. Symptoms can improve with an anti inflammatory diet. I like intuitive fasting by Will Cole. The Longevity Paradox and Body Love. Stress and Sleep Management have a great impact on the body and GI.

We are also looking for relief for terrible debilitating stomach cramps. My husband was in the hospital for 6 weeks then onto an Acute Care Hospital and then rehab to learn to walk again. He had Covid Pneumonia. I’ve also lost trust in doctors. He came home in March this year on oxygen and has now returned to work. Neither his cardiologist or pulmonologist and now the Covid rehab doctors at UTSW know what to do to help him with these cramps. He’s young, 47 years old was in great shape and no underlying issues pre Covid. He did loose 80 pounds during his hospitalization. Came home 6”4 at 160 pounds. Wondering if the rapid weight loss did something to his stomach to cause these cramps. Following for any suggestions! We’ve tried probiotics…

Hi, I don't know what to do with my problem. I worked in a family medicine practice that didn't believe in covid and urged no vaccinations and didn't require masks for patients, sick or healthy; we were yelled at daily for wearing masks, I was told I was going to die of cancer for getting vaccinated. The quitting point was when the doctors wife tried to report my daughter to child services for breastfeeding my granddaughter after getting vaccinated since she was poisoning her. We all got sick with classic covid symptoms in Dec of 2019, I have been told I've had it since then dx'd by symptoms.. we were strongly urged not to get tested due to contact tracing (sorry I needed my job). I got vaccinated, Pfizer in Feb, March 2021, boosted in Oct 2021 and June 2022. Since summer of 2021 I have noticed food tastes and smells rancid, nothing tastes good, I live on yogurt, lima beans, ham and peas. I used to love everything, the most nonpicky eater there ever was. I have lost 40 pounds in a year, it seems to go in waves of days where I can't eat, no appetite, everything tastes horrible. Then symptoms seem to get better and I can tolerate more. My doctor thinks it may be vaccine related and wants me to follow up with gastro and infectious disease. Unfortunately I have a high deductible plan and everyone wants full payment upfront for any testing which I can't afford. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am going to brave Ensure which makes me gag just thinking about it.

Parasites? Mayo rejects colloidal silver therapy, but I have primary and secondary immune suppression plus autoimmunities, newly active since Moderna One vax. I had infections everywhere post vax, kidney, bladder, UTI, ear. sinus, etc and friend recommended CS. It probably saved my life. Continuing the story: about infected stomach abdomen. Slow, slow retreat of infections and visible parasites in my urine for weeks. I joined a CS group on Facebook, and many people have been helped. I don't know if CS is for you, but I had terrible stomach-abdominal-genital pain that many different antibiotics including IV did not help. If nothing else works.....???

Ensure saved my husbands life! He was in the hospital a total of about 16 weeks and lost 80 pounds. I literally took a mini fridge to the hospital and filled with Ensure and yogurt. We’ve been to multiple doctors after his release to no avail. He’s dealing with terrible stomach cramps now and his throat swelling. Read through the comments here and you will see not many doctors are able to help. Everyone seems to be dealing with similar issues. There are some suggestions throughout this group that we are now trying. We do have a cardiologist, a pulmonologist and a GP but none really know at this point about long haulers. It’s just too soon.

Look up leaky gut syndrome and see if it fits. Some drs say it doesn’t exist but I had a wonderful pcp in Miami who believed in it.
Can cause symptoms all over the body. If roughly 70% of our immune system is in our gut; it’s a big problem.
Add Covid in and well....

That's what I've heard, too soon, too little information available. I am just so tired. I can't imagine going on like this for the rest of my life.

It’s been 1 year since my then 12 yo had an inflammatory response post covid (it was not defined as Mis-C, but did cause her to be hospitalized). Some of her symptoms has faded, but she is left with a constant stomachache, sore throat, and dizziness. 19 doctors later she is diagnosed with gastroparesis and SIBO. So far the medication (Creon and motilium) and dietary changes have not helped.

I had COVID 6-11-2022 and now have recovered with no sign via a Antigen Rapid Test on 7-4-2022,
I am experiencing a lingering gastrointestinal issue with morning symptoms, mainly diarrhea and mild stomach discomfort.
I am not sure if I am totally over COVID, or, still experiencing initial virus effects.
I am unsure if what I am experiencing are long COVID issues.

I had Covid June 21, 2022, I also have Crohns disease and a clotting disorder (APS).
I have felt like I've had an alien living in my gut ever since my Covid diagnosis. 2 weeks ago I had an episode of complete loss of fluids through every pore in my body, hair dripping, total dumping of diarrhea and cold sweats. The next day I was due for My Remicade infusion and 1 hour in to the infusion had a seizure (never happened before) and syncope that landed me in the hospital for 3 days.
Nothing of great significance was found, they even did a colonoscopy but wouldn't do any biopsies bc I'm on eliquis.
I was released with a diagnosis of long haulers Covid in my stomach and they wanted me to take 100 mg of steroids a day (I declined!) I have been on low dose steroids daily since 2005 and I take florastor daily as well.
I have lost 40 lbs since before the first of the year and experience difficulty swallowing, so I'm an ensure drinker twice daily. Non-smoker, non-drinker.
Doctors seem stumped and just say there isn't enough research and would rather use me as a guinea pig and guess as what to do.
Any real ideas out there??
They checked for parasites

Hi all. I was tested positive for covid 19 last 2nd week of June. But, before that, I just woke up one morning feeling bad, like upset stomach & dizzy. After 2weeks, the test was negative. But, I feel the same, like bloated stomach, its like full of air, and I always discharge gas (fart). I also noticed that my speech has become a little slurred and sometimes I feel like I'm shaking. Are these post covid symptoms? How can we manage these symptoms? Many thanks to those who will reply.
