Covid-19 Quad muscle pain

Posted by Ludwig Habada @lhabada, Dec 9, 2022

Has anyone experienced issues with pain in both quad muscles after contracting covid? My care giver told me that there has not been enough time and research to figure out what remedy there is, if any to this problem. Not only do I have pain at all times, but my balance has not been the same since! Your thoughts?

My legs have been aching a lot. I’ve been thinking it was due to atrophy because of how inactive I’ve had to be due to LC. Now I’m thinking it might be a symptom of long Covid. It isn’t a sharp pain or cramps. Just bad muscle aches in my legs. Is anyone experiencing anything like this?

The arthritis in my hands has gotten much worse with my LC. I actually do have a massage therapist who massages them.😉

I’ve had muscle pain that feels like a burning sensation just when up and moving around. Dr said it sounded like fibromyalgia symptoms and started me on lyrica because neurontin didn’t help. I take 150mg at night and 75mg during day and it’s helped tremendously.
For the after exercise pain in my legs that feels unbearable for days has been recently diagnosed as PEM (post exhertional malaise)…. You can look up most of this if you put the right key words in… I haven’t found any relief from that and most studies say “listen to your body and don’t over exert yourself”…. As the only remedy

After I wrote in, I spoke with my doctor about it. She said it has to do with my adrenal glands not working properly, and not being able to get the lactic acid out of my leg muscles. She said to only exercise - meaning taking walks - for 10 minutes at a time. I need to tell my body that I’m not going to hurt it, and exercising too much will do more harm than good.

It’s interesting how many different explanations we’re getting. On the other hand, our symptoms seem to be a bit different.

I haven't seen TENS-EMS units posted on this site for muscle/nerve pain or cramps. They are sometimes used for back, knee, and other pain, and I've used them after shoulder injury. There isn't much research on if they help with some LC symptoms. Below is some info:

I have pain in my legs for no reason too...had Covid last year...but get leg pain/muscle aches pain sometimes.....pretty bad where it's painful to walk...take 600mg of Ibuprofen and that helps. Was trying to figure out what was causing it because I am a daily walker and most days walk 30-45 minutes. Went walking with my husband yesterday and we walked about 90 minutes. Good luck to you!

I got my leg muscles into good condition with PT, but it’s my arm muscles that have seized up now. It’s always sore but sometimes aches really bad. I have an appointment to see orthopedic doctor.

Yes, Long Covid has left me with body aches, especially in my legs. I had varicose veins and spider veins, so Covid attacked that weak area of my body. My long Covid issues started in July 2022, exactly three weeks after testing positive for Covid. I went to USF to participate in their Long Covid Recovery Clinic. My functional integrative doc here had put me on NAC prior. USF doctor added Nattokinase/Serraptase supplement daily. I take two of each in the morning on an empty stomach. They actually give me some relief of the body aches I wake up with. I am seeing a nurse practitioner at a local Long Covid 19 Clinic. She was a huge answer to prayer. She did a referral to a local rheumatologist who ordered a plethora of blood tests. Based on my symptoms, confirmed by bloodwork results he diagnosed me with early rheumatoid arthritis. I had been taking 1,000 mg of Motrin, an ibuprofen and knew it wasn’t good for my stomach. But, I took 600 mg at breakfast, and generally took another 400 mg with dinner. Since seeing the rheumatologist, I no longer take Motrin. He put me on 10 mg of Prednisone. I took that dosage for a month. He recently started weaning me off slowly. I dropped to 9 mg this month, 8 next month etc.
Praying for wisdom and direction has been my saving Grace. God has closed doors to a rheumatologist who didn’t “treat my condition” to open the door to the most amazing rheumatologist. I thanked him two months ago for agreeing to see me and told him about the other doctor. He admitted that the doctors don’t know how to treat long Covid cause there’s “no pill” they can prescribe that fixes it. I told him I’m praying for wisdom for him and he smiled. At the second visit, I told him I “trusted” him, which is a good feeling on this health journey. Praying for healing and direction for all of us Long haulers as we seek to recover as much as we can prior to getting Covid.
