Could cataract surgery cause my long covid symptoms to reoccur?

Posted by bsrea @bsrea, 3 days ago

I had covid Feb. 2020 and then had long covid symptoms for two years. When I was sick with covid I was throwing up, got it in my hair which got in my eye. (Sorry for this picture). Then I had serious conjunctivitis for another week. My main long covid problem was fatigue and although I'm a regular exerciser I couldn't train. My body wouldn't respond correctly --I couldn't sustain an elevated heart rate up--oxygen wasn't moving around my body. A year ago I was diagnosed with ADHD and started vyvance. After a day or two I took my first deep breath in years. I could exercise again and was back to my normal routine. My eyesight has deteriorated over the last year and my doctor recommended cataract surgery. But after that the fatigue and inability to exercise have returned. I'm still taking Vyvanse but I wonder if the surgery "woke up" the virus? Is the eyesight stuff covid related? And what my next steps could be. My primary care doc doesn't know what to do--tells me I'm aging.

I’ve been suffering with eye trouble for several years, after a bout of covid in 2022, I really had more problems. I speculated whether it was due to covid but I don’t want to ask the doctor, I went through a hard time getting him to take my rapid heart rate seriously when I blamed covid. I feel that covid can aggravate a pre-existing condition and it’s possible that it stirred up your previous eye problems, either way go to the doctor and get tested and make sure you’re good to go, best wishes.

Hi @bsrea. Suspect you will find many here who have eye changes/difficulties after covid. I had no vision issues prior to covid, glasses prescribed (that only help small period of time) during post covid diagnosis journey, and believe eyes go thru similar ever changing fatigue/symptoms not identifiable on tests as the rest of our bodies. Appears many as well have past conditions reactivated or the stress of a procedure/treatment on a body with previous covid immune suppressed /compromised weakened body can cause covid symptoms to reappear. So much is still being learned and best to always assure nothing new/different creating issue and then thru the rule out process only available at this time, seems many will deem it covid related. Hope this made sense and helps you get assistance in quickest manner possible🌈

I know that each of us is different. In my case I had cataract surgery on both eyes (about 15 months apart) after my Long COVID diagnosis. The procedure did not impact my symptoms.
