COPD, Zephyr valve and lung cancer

Posted by jnslildarlin34 @jnslildarlin34, Oct 30, 2023

My husband has severe COPD and was diagnosed with lung cancer last year. He was treated with radiation therapy and his last PET scan was clean. He is interested in the zephyr valve procedure. However there is not much information on the procedure after cancer. Is that still possible?

Interested in more discussions like this? Go to the COPD: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease Support Group.

I would explore his options at Duke University Interventional Pulmonology Department. I had Zephyr valves placed in November 23 and could not be more pleased. Wonderful group of physicians, long standing history of valve research and insertion

“Temple is a world leader in the testing and use of endobronchial valves for bronchoscopic lung volume reduction in patients with severe emphysema. In fact, we’re the first center in the nation to perform BLVR.

Our doctors led both major international studies that proved the valves work — the EMPROVE study for the Spiration® Valve System and the LIBERATE study for the Zephyr® Endobronchial Valve. The studies led to both valves being FDA approved. We’re also a national training site for pulmonologists who come from across the country — including Connecticut, Ohio, Michigan and Arizona — to learn how to implant the valves.

Temple Lung Center Director Dr. Gerard Criner has been involved in every major BLVR study over the past 25 years. He led the medical teams that carried out both the EMPROVE and LIBERATE clinical trials that resulted in FDA approval of the Spiration® and Zephyr® valves. He was also the first in the country to implant both valves after FDA approval.”

Dr Criner did my RheOx thermal treatment for my chronic bronchitis in a clinical trial which will be ending soon. After which I am meeting with him to discuss Zephr valves and my emphysema/COPD.

Temple also has a Lung Cancer Center.

“Lung Cancer Program
You have access to a dedicated team of specialists, state-of-the-art imaging, minimally invasive surgeries, and cutting-edge clinical trials to beat your lung cancer.“

If you’re near Philadelphia give this state of the art Pulmonary Dept a call.

Praying you & your hubby find the right doctors.

I know it has been awhile ago that you posted! I had Zephyr valves placed in 11/23… at Duke University. I suggest that you contact the Interventional Pulmonary Department of the larger Medical Centers like Mayo, Cleveland Clonic, Duke, and ask that question . Hope this helps!
