COPD oxygen levels

What is the normal oxygen level for stage 3 COPD?

Oxygen levels honestly do NOT correspond to “COPD level.” It really depends on how each of us is able to efficiently get o2 from our lungs into our blood. Some folks with high FEV1 and pretty intact lungs have difficulty getting the O2 to transfer while others don’t. Conversely, sone folks with very low lung function still manage to transfer the O2 from lungs into their blood & bodies. The pulse oximeter is a very helpful guide for most patients in helping determine whether they need supplemental O2.

I purchased and wear a full time on the spot oximeter ring-the alarm goes off when I get below 88%-so I slow down and relax until it goes off. It's a Wellue and costs $159. I've had it for over a year. Also hooks up with your iPhone and records. The other ones are not set up to alarm and you have to wait for a reading. I found this by accident and am not a commercial, just a guy with COPD from covid.

@jerdonus I had the ring for years then it just stopped working. Now I have the wrist one with the thing on your finger; it was less expensive. I like both of them, but the doctor just looks at you like you're crazy.

Thanks for your response-where did you get the wrist oximeter? Cost?

I am curious I have moderate emphysema and bad asthma. My pulse ox is normal with a finger meter.
I get very short of breath on exertion and almost feel tingly. I have asked for oxygen that I can use whenever I need it and I'm told Medicare won't cover it because my pulse ox doesn't go below 60.

@km6 Never heard there was a limit-mine goes to 85 and I was prescribed oxygen by my pulmonologist.

@rmdmichigan
I have the same ring mostly use it for exercise. That’s when my oxygen drops when my heart rate goes up.
I’m thinking of going with a watch as the Ring is pretty cheap. I’m not sure it’s reliable anymore. The thin rubber is wearing out.
It’s been great for me learning what I’m doing when it drops so if I forget to wear it, I’m more aware.

@sherstar56 My ring, the thin rubber, broke in half. I just tapped on it, and it was good. I took mine to the Dr.'s with me, and when they put the pulse ox on me, I put my ring on, and they matched.

@km6 Ask for a 6 minute walk test at the Dr's office. Medicare requires the 02 lever to drop to 88.
