Copd and exercise

Posted by coleandoscar @coleandoscar, Sep 24, 2025

I have found unbelievable results with exercise. I do chair yoga and chair cardio/strength. These are silver sneakers classes I take free at the Y. After class I breathe normally and can walk slowly with little difficulty. Noah Greenspan of Pulmonary Wellness as well as other experts on COPD stress it.

Good for you! I am also to walk and exercise. It helps so much. When you are not going for classes, you can get free exercise classes thru Utube. Search: yoga for seniors over 60. Keep up the good work.

I fo treadmill and I use jun Reyes senior exercises on YouTube when I am able. Keep up the great work! Exercise does help a lot! I could not do it at first but I started on treadmill at 2 minutes and can now do 30!

I have only mild COPD but hope it will not progress.
I do exercise, cardio helps a lot. I was not sure about working hard so I went to pulmonary rehab for several months ( 2x week) where I worked with Resp Therapist as I worked on treadmill, bicycle, etc. My O2 was measures as I worked. Found out the harder I worked the better off my lungs performed.

I do Donna Wilson lung exercises on YouTube. Very effective.

I’ve been recently diagnosed with COPD. My lung doctor said exercise is very important.
When I got home, I thought, “how am I supposed to exercise if I can’t breath?”
Thank you for the great information! I will try your suggestions.

@19rose63 If you can go to pulmonary rehab to start with, they give very good advice and help you exercise. And yes, you must exercise to keep your muscles and body organs in good shape so they can use the oxygen you are getting. Start slow, build up, and push yourself to do it.

I have severe COPD. I take Trelegy and levalbuterol. I started a routine in january 2026. And all my numbers improved at my july check up with my pulmonologist. I use The Breather morning and night and i do humming for 5 minutes each morning and night. Check out humming. Endorsed by COPD association and Lung Association. Its good for breathing/lungs and relaxation.
