It there any solution for constant tinnitis?
I have high pitched tones constantly though I have learned to ignore it mostly.
It can become louder at times, even loud enough to make me wince!
There is help. For years, my husband went to every type of doctor known….with no results. Finally, he contacted the University of Maryland after hearing about the tinnitus program they had. They saved his sanity…Now 20 years later, he still hears the noise but it is under control and does not control his life.

Hello @2beagles, I've had tinnitus for over 12 years. I've never heard of a tinnitus program before. Could you describe a little about what they do in that program?
I hear cicada sound too. Mostly on my right ear. I have learned to ignore it too. Doesn’t bother me when there’s noise around. I had a hearing test and it was normal. I sleep with the TV on and that helps.
I was not familiar with the term, cicada sound. I did find a Youtube video, with sound, that describes it for anyone who is interested. Here is the link,
My husbands tinnitus made him crazy….up all night….went to doctors who only handled nerves in the ears…etc…nothing help..forget the c coffee and aspirin, it will not take care of your problem…if it does, only temporarily. Years ago, WM SCHAFFNER from starwars was on TV and said he got a divorce over his tinnitus…..he finally found the UNIV of Maryland who helped him… My husband immediately called the University and got an appointment. At the time there were 2 doctors that worked together on it. After lots of testing, he was made 2 large …maybe different now….white noise looking hearing aids. He wore them daily for 2 years…during waking hours. They retrained his brain to know that the noise was not threatening. It was a miracle for him. No drops,, no docs, no clinics helped…only these devices. He no longer needs them and is able to have a normal life. That was 20 years ago…..it works. I would think Mayo Clinic has the program too. Good luck!
@2beagles Interesting . I,ve had tinnitus for over 30 yrs . ENT told me there wasn't anything that could be done about this . My son told me about a white machine . Maybe I'll have to try it .
It was not a white machine, it was specially made large hearing aids that gave white noise…….hard to believe ENT's don't know this yet….if you read my post my husband went to every doc he could….this fixed his problem……20 years of peace. for him….this is a very specialized area of medicine….I am a RN…I know.
2beagles That is great I wish the ENT,s knew about the aids Don,t get defensive I just asked
Thanks for sharing about this remarkable treatment, @2beagles. Your husband must be relieved. I will try to research and see if other places nearer to me have this kind of treatment.
I hope you get relief….
I suffer constant tinnitus caused by an inner ear tumour that enlarged over 10 years then shrank but left me mostly deaf and with very noisy tinnitus like a jet engine and sometime a loud ringing like a hammer striking an anvil. The specialist insists nothing can be done. So I invested in a very good set of headphones but felt very sorry for myself until another very large but benign ‘Myxoma’ tumour was found under my heart which was successfully removed. I am now on blood thinners and recovered I have been diagnosed with an enlarged bronchial artery that fill one lung with blood when under pressure. So tinnitus is not so bad to live with after all. So good luck and best wishes. John
@johnwhite I'm so sorry to hear of all those tumors you had . Glad the surgery helped you I would not be concerned about tinnitus . I have had it all my life some 40+ years . I found that dairy products especially just milk makes it worse so I drink almond milk now doesn't bother me . I wish you well john white . It's a blessing we all can survive whatever is given to us . We where never told all is fair so have to put up tinnitus better then a lot of other problems ,like being bedridden
@kimjensch I understand about tinnitus . I have had it since the 70's There is nothing the Dr.s know off but you can research on your self to see what may increase the volume of the tinnitus . I found that milk in particular set mine of like a train at full speed coming down the tracks . I eliminated the milk and still have it but it is a whisper now . I've had it so long I just ignore it with another noise ,music, T.V. , or whatever is on with noise . It's better then being bedridden so try to find out what allergies that may set it off. You can't get rid of it .
I normally hang out in the neuropathy group but I was reading a post by someone and she mentioned having tinnitus. My brother told me a week ago that he started having it in his right ear, very loud. I told him about a product Linda, my wife, has been using since 2012 called Clear Tinnitus. It has helped her a lot with her tinnitus, which is very bad in both ears. It doesn't eliminate it all the time, but it helps significantly enough that she does continue taking it. Clear Tinnitus is homeopathic based. Linda is currently taking 3 per day (1 morning, 1 afternoon, 1 at night). At various times she has taken more (at one time she was taking 6/day).
I don't know what kinds of drugs people take for this condition, but this a something to try that is not a drug for those who have gotten no relief in other ways. It might help you or perhaps not, but it might be worth a try. I get it on Amazon. Best, Hank
