Connection with bronchiectais and pulmonary hypertension?

Has anyone had any experience with bronchiectais and hypertension?

@playadelcarmen I am confused... Are you asking if anyone has experience with bronchiectasis and hypertension, or specifically with pulmonary hypertension?

Up to 2/3 of Americans have hypertension, or high blood pressure as described here, although fewer than half are treating it to control it:
https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/high-blood-pressure/symptoms-causes/syc-20373410
Pulmonary hyper tension, where the high blood pressure directly affects blood vessels in the lungs and right side of the heart, only affects about 1% of people:
https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/pulmonary-hypertension/symptoms-causes/syc-20350697
Symptoms are different between the two - and in fact hypertension is known as "the silent killer" because there are often no symptoms. Pulmonary hypertension, on the other hand, has a number of symptoms, which are described in the link above. any of them are similar to symptoms of moderate to severe bronchiectasis, and it takes a doctor to distinguish between them for you.

Do you know which kind you have?

Hi Sue, I have heart disease in the family. Father had massive heart attack, age 54. Had open heart surgery, at which time they cut out part of damaged heart from aneurysm. He lived another 15 years.
I am trying to get as much information on bronchiectais, which I have, and connection with Pulmonary hypertension, if any.
Thank You for the info.

Hi playa - I think that would be a great subject for you to research. Common sense tells me that any chronic lung condition might increase the possibility of pulmonary hypertension, but I have no knowledge to back that up. You could try a search for "bronchiectasis and pulmonary hypertension" then following links to research organizations, the heart association and similar sites to find out.

Hi Sue, Ok, sounds like a plan. Just had blood test RA factor high, went to rheumatologist. I do not have RA. He took another blood test, waiting for results. Reading other people’s Story with bronchiectais, I feel lucky.
