Managing colitis with diet

Posted by billie3 @billie3, May 11, 2020

Has anyone met with success after following the diet suggestions from a registered dietitian? I've given up on Imodium and meds my doc has prescribed. I need to get relief from my flair-ups and put my colitis in remission. My doc is now suggesting I make an apptmt with a dietitian.

Hi and thanks for getting back to me. At this moment I am weaning myself off of Paroxetine ( this week down to 5 mg) , On Drs advice I am taking Miralax, & Pepcid AC 20 mg. Also, take Alprazolam when needed to help the anxiety that comes with getting off the Paxil. During the past few years I have taken antibiotics often, on different Drs orders. Most recently I went to the local emergency room where they said I had diverticulitis and went on amoxacilin. Three days after the ER visit my regular Dr got a report saying that the first diagnosis was for another paient and should be ignored. Still I was made to finish the antibiotic without further testing.?? They came up with enterocolitis on the second try.

I've been dealing with SCAD for about ten years now. (segmental colitis associated with diverticulitis) Internet searching has helped me come up with my own diet ... and it works when I follow it. Drink no alcohol, caffeine, or carbonated beverages. Avoid chocolate (caffeine). Water, lemonade, orange juice, and low caffeine iced tea are my beverages. (BTW I love good beer and wine and nearly cry about having to avoid them. There is some Guinness beer in the refrigerator right now, but it would cost me to drink any). Cut way back on beef and pork, making lean chicken and turkey your main meat dishes. Eat lots of fruits and veggies. I eat dairy, with yogurt often, such as frozen yogurt to replace ice cream. Eggs are good. Fish is good broiled, not deep fried. Avoid all french fries foods. Buy and use quality probiotics such as Floragen. Learn to curb your anxiety, yoga and exercise work for me. I teach yoga every other day and do insane amounts of yard work and home maintenance.
