CML Sprycel side effects
I have been on Spycel for 5 plus years and from a treatment perspective responded very well.
Recently I have developed issues with perceptual cellulitis. Bacterial skin infection involving the eyelid and facial area. So far no one has isolated the cause. I am on my 4th round of antibiotics since October 23, has been very persistent in reoccurring. I have seen multiple primary care, ophthalmologists,ENT, dermatology, CT scan, next stop infection disease.
Oncology thinks maybe a result of my treatment plan. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Two years ago, I started on 100mg Sprycel when Imatinib failed. I had similar side effects immediately- fluid retention, scalp sensitivity, and weird facial pustules. My oncologist cut my dose to 50mg, which has been much better. I also take 20mg furosimide (diuretic) every other day. It keeps the swelling down. All other side effects are minimal now. And my numbers have slowly & steadily gone down.
Hi @amongst, Thank you for sharing your similar Sprycel experience with @galbib. It’s really encouraging that dropping to the lower dosage has helped avoid the side effects! How are you feeling otherwise?
I don’t have the stamina I used to have, especially in hot weather. But I am 63, so I hate to blame it all on meds…🤣 I still work full time & I am on my feet a lot during the day. I’ll be retiring in December & my husband & I are going to travel the country in an RV. I am so thankful for the medication that is keeping me alive & I’ll keep going as long as I can!
@amongst, LOL I feel your pain…It warmed up where we live, enough for me to work in the yard/garden for a few days. Felt so good to be out in the sun being productive. Then, oooph, the next 2 days after that little project, I was zonked out. Needed to remind myself I’m in my 70s not my 20s!
It’s wonderful you’re doing well and looking forward to retirement! I hope you have many fun and memorable adventures on your cross country travels! Where your first destination?
Hi Lori,
I was reading your story & I’m so glad you’re doing well!
We live in the South & will head further south this coming winter. Then maybe along the Gulf? We like to explore!
The Gulf is a great choice! We winter in the panhandle of FL every year and love it. Though it’s not as warm as the peninsula, being from Wisconsin even 60s/70s is a heatwave. 😅 Enjoy your travels!
