Chronic UTIs

Posted by hdwoman @hdwoman, Jul 6 8:38am

I get rid of one and two weeks later have another one! This has been going on for about a year. Worse still, I have no symptoms. I use the Azo test weekly. Have gone to doctor to confirm. Anyone else?

Are you taking any meds that could cause UTI's? My doctor took me off of Prolea and I haven't had a UTI in almost a year.

I complained of UTI's over about an 11 month period of time. I did the normal urinalysis as well as cultures. Only one of the times was it lab-confirmed true UTI. I was sent to a urologist and id urodynamic testing and came back "perfect." Then I was sent to a gynecologist for pelvic ultrasound, and that's when they found a thickening of the endometrial lining that was causing my problems.

I am very interested in what others have to say about chronic UTIs. I rarely have a UTI, last one was 10 years ago. Only symptom was foul smelling urine that caused me to go in and be tested. I was prescribed antibodies. Thought it had gone away. Week later same symptoms again and went in got tested, and did another round antibodies.

I was not familiar with AZO strips to test at home. Going to order and try next time think I have UTI.

Beside the antibodies, the provider just gave general advice to prevent: cranberry juice, proper hygiene, drink plenty of fluids and no bubble baths.

Here is link to a Mayo Clinic article "Chronic bladder infection: Is there a cure?"

If I get another one, definitely going back to provider to ask why I started having them.

Hi! Are u male or female? Perimenopause can cause recurring UTIs, could discuss hormone treatment with doc. Have cultures been done? Is it always the same bacteria or does it change? Reinfection is different than recurrence and should be differentiated by your doctor. If you have no symptoms, what is prompting testing? Has your doctor screened you for medical conditions that cause recurring UTIs such as diabetes?

Although I dont know how to copy and paste to this site.... I have seen a number of papers that are speaking of cessation and/or reduction of UTI s when hrt/bhrt is being used by the patient.

I would suggest getting a cat scan to find out what is causing all the recurring UTIs. A cat scan gives the answers to many issues ! It saved my cousin

Thank you for your reply. I've already had a CAT scan.

Could it be an Embedded UTI?
