Chronic Nausea, Told Not GI Related, Have GERD. What Dr should I see?

Posted by mikejjb123 @mikejjb123, Jul 27, 2022

I have chronic daily nausea. Seen a Gastro and had all possible tests which came back negative. Now told nausea not related to the GERD. Not sure of next steps. Even had my gallbladder tested. I have colitis but it is under control. What kind of dr should I see next? Internist? Neurologist? Thanks. I am lost and confused.

Oddly I had BRAVO and manometry. Manometry showed hiatal hernia but surgeon said not that bad.

I have taken pepcid over the counter as well as about 10 different prescribed medications. None work. Thanks. Any more ideas?

Have you tried Zyprexia, a psychiatric drug that is used off-label for nausea? And how about Ativan, in small doses, also off-label use? Both have worked for me at a time when the other anti-nausea meds did not. Let me know.

Keeping a journal of what you eat and note when nausea happens .. after meals or medication.. may help you figure out triggers. Sometimes eating greasy foods, sweets or eating too much at one time can trigger nausea, You might try eating small frequent meals… just eat part of your regular meal and eat the rest later.

My husband bought a Reliefband over a year and a half ago for me and I have had great success with it. You wear it like an upside down watch on your wrist and it works much like a TENs machine. I was very surprised when it worked. My husband had nausea a while back an he borrowed it and he said .. who would have thunk that would work. He buys them on Amazon for me and buys the one with replaceable batteries. I don't want to wait for something to charge when I have nausea. I also use it when I have a migraine headache or vertigo. I wasn't a believer to start with .. TENs machines never helped me much in PT.

Mirtazapine is also off label for nausea. Also, what about odansetron fur nausea is current med making you worse.

Thanks so much. Nausea for years on a daily basis. Every test done and no idea what is the problem. Really discouraged. Be well.

Hi all had my gallbladder out 20 years ago. In the last year and half have had Common bile duct stones x2 with hospital stays. Now nausea, bloating belching all the time. Never had this issue before ERCP X2 TO remove stones. Anyone else have this issue?

I know the feeling of chronic nausea….awful! I had it 2.5 years and lost 70 lbs. before turning it around.

Talk with your PCP about the medicines I mentioned. You. could also pair the Zyprexia with mirtazapine. Mirtazapine also has off-label anti-nausea properties and it will boost your appetite, which helped me.

Also, there is discussion on this forum and thread about the Relief Band. I used this too, with some success. Buy the one with replaceable batteries…much better, if you go that route.

Let me know how it goes after talking with your provider. BTW, what medicines/supplements have you tried so far?
