Chronic blood in urine

Hi I’ve had visible blood in my urine for about 10 years without 100% diagnosis. I had A PAE procedure done on 2021 , no changes so I had a second PAE early in 2024. I still have visible blood in my urine every time I pee. No other urinary symptoms. I am scheduled for a 3rd procedure (prostate ablation) in May of 2024 but am not convinced the bleeding is all prostate related due to failure of the 2 PAE procedures (prostate artery embolization) Are there other suggested treatments or conditions that I should explore to properly diagnose chronic bleeding in urine? Thanks

I'm not a doctor, but I was a medical technologist for many years, and looked at a lot of urine under the scope. Blood in the urine is usually a result of: a) some sort of minor bleeding; b) a problen within the kidneys in which the part that filters the blood is allowing red blood cells to enter the urine; c) high blood pressure might be causing red blood cells to be literally "squeezed" though the filtration pores in the filtering mechanism of the kidney (think, coffee filter allowing the grounds to pass through along with the coffee); lastly, there could be a minor infection somewhere along the urinary tract causing blood in the urine. Have they done testing for any kind of infection? If not, this can be a real diagnostic help. There, I guess I have rambled on long enough. Have a blessed day. Good luck!

I’m a retired nurse and educator. If you’ve had this problem for 10 years it’s presumed you’re not losing enough blood to require a transfusion since you didn’t mention that in your post? If this leak (my word) is originating in your kidneys your bladder contents would be diluting the blood so I presume dipstick testing for blood in your urine was positive? Your multiple procedures could have caused this so can you pinpoint any correlation between the blood and procedures? Was the occurrence of blood concurrent with your prostate issues? Have you sought a second opinion and are you being seen at a large teaching institution?

Thank you for your response, I neglected to advise that blood in urine was present years before PAE procedures. I also have had 3 iron sucrose infusions due to bleeding and very low iron in blood

I’m been in the university health network of hospitals in Toronto . Visible blood in my urine was the first indicator for me to seek medical attention. I’ve never really had typical symptoms of BPH but that’s what they keep referring it to. Multiple cystoscopes have never indicated bladder cancer and PSA numbers have been good. My urologist is now recommending laser ablation treatment but I’m hesitating
