Cholesterol medicine - fenofibrate
My 27 yr. old son has an aortic aneurysm and a bicuspid valve and his heart doctor wants to put him on fenofibrate to help lower his cholesterol. What are the long term effects of this medication for someone this young?

Hello @dgab24, Welcome to Connect. It has to be unsettling for you not knowing what possible side effects could be for your son to have to use a new medication for a long time. While we wait for others who may have experience to join the discussion, I thought you might find the following information helpful.

Are you able to talk with your son's cardiologist about your concerns?
Thank you for the information. I have printed the information to give to my son. As far as talking to his doctor, my son is not very good at asking the right questions and I am going to try and go with him to his next appointment or give him some suggested questions to ask his doctor. His doctor is the same doctor my dad had and he is very thorough and does let us ask questions. When his condition was first detected his pressure was being monitored and has no problem with that but the doctor had mentioned the side effects of possibly putting him on blood pressure meds at such a young age could have a lasting effect on him down the road that was why I wanted to make sure the cholesterol meds did not have the same effect.
There are some good tips and cards you can print out to take along with you to the appointment for you or your son on the Patient Revolution website here - https://www.patientrevolution.org/tools
