I have started to choke spontaneously on my own saliva. Anyone else?
I’m a 75 year old female take no medication and have had no diagnosis. Lately I’m chocking on my own saliva occasionally. The kind of chocking that used to happen only when liquid goes down the wrong way. Now it seems that I spontaneously choke on my own saliva. Anyone have this experience?

I’m dealing with swallow muscles in my neck being weak. When I’m choking I was told to cough really hard. It works for me. I’m being coached by a speech therapist. I suggest you see one for more help.
Hi, China.
Have you consulted an ENT? Might be a good start for finding out what's going on.
Hope this gets you closer to a solution. Choking like you describe can be a scary experience.
All the best!

Hi China,
I agree with /LarryG,
A good ENT doctor will diagnose the problem, How long have you had this problem?
Funcountess
My husband’s side of the family (cousin, father, aunt) all developed this issue later in life. It’s important that you tell your GP that you’re having this problem so they can schedule you with the right specialist. There are treatments available that may help before it worsens.
Please consider seeing an ENT Doctor as well.
Go get checked ASAP.
Could be a symptom of a serious illness. Also, there are speech therapists who specialize in therapy for swallowing issues. I needed one 12 years ago as I have a stricture in my throat.
To the 75 yr old who spontaneously choking on her saliva, idk but perhaps it's a hiatel hernia... yould have to see a specialist, a gastroenterologist. There's a gi bldg at 570 white pond ave in akron ohio. Dr fulton is especially good. Good luck!!!!
I'm 78 and also have coughing fits.
-i suspect allergies for at least one reason why I cough and cough.
--Sometimes it's when I am eating--i hack and hack then my nose fills up and then I sneeze. It's usually resolved after I blow my nose.
--Also, when I first get into bed I sometimes hack and hack and my nose fills up. I rarely sneeze afterward though I do blow my nose to get the hacking to stop.
--Prior allergy tests--not including food--showed allergies to "the environment" and I appear to be hypersenstive. Cleaning fluid and the like are serious triggers. Perfumes, too.
--Occasionally, I wake up, can't breathe as my nose is plugged up.
Thanks to all including jc76, above, as the comments shared were similar to come of my issues.
I have this usually once every night when I'm trying to get to sleep. I go to swallow and it feels like something is stuck. Usually I panic for a few seconds and then tell myself to be calm and then I finish swallow 🙃ing
I often feel I can't swallow or breath due to phlegm in my throat. And it does cause a panic! I've started using a saline nose spray that helps a bit. I have allergies to the 'environment' (whatever that means) so I sneeze a lot as well. Sometimes I think it's lack of hydration - who knows? Drs. have not provided any answers other than 'hm'.
