Charlie Horses and Cramping: What helps?

Posted by sickteacher @sickteacher, Nov 8, 2022

Hello! I have been experiencing tremendously painful Charlie Horses / cramps in my feet, legs and even abdomen if I bend over. I don’t even know what doctor to go to for this issue, as I have seen so many specialists for other long Covid and have just heard the typical “drink more water and eat bananas type advice.” I just woke up screaming with one in my calf and woke up my entire family. Any advice of what type of doctor to go to or how else to help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi. I understand what you're talking about. That happens to me at work. I'm awake one minute and then struggling to stay awake, and then snoring (at my desk!). That's great that you're doing that study. Hope you get some answers. Good luck.

Hi Sickteacher,
That is so bad what you are going through! When I get a Charlie horse, I walk around, (if you can) and drink water. This does seem to help. In fact, it's a good idea to drink a lot of water during the day. The suggestions of magnesium are good for that also. Magnesium does a lot of good things for our bodies.

I would suggest you see your primary care doctor regarding this situation. He can decide if you need to see a specialist or if something else is also happening with your body.

Best of luck! I'll say a prayer for you.

I am also struggling with daytime sleepiness. Wouldn’t really call it fatigue. Went to the movies with my grandson, who nudged me twice to wake up. Struggle to keep my eyes open at traffic lights. I was never a napped before Covid last June. Since then, I will fall asleep sitting in the dinette chair. I am doing a sleep study for daytime sleepiness to rule out sleep apnea. I wake up every hour or two during the night. Not sure what wakes me up, so I’m hoping the sleep study will provide some answers to why my sleep is so disrupted.
