Anyone made changes in diet since diagnosis or treatment?
Has anyone changed their diet regimen after diagnosis/treatment of High-Grade NMIBC. I see some recommendations to increase raw cruciferous vegetable intake (broccoli, cauliflower, kale, Brussels sprouts, cabbage). Also, avoiding a Western dietary pattern high in red/processed meat, fat, and refined grains. Not sure if it will help prognosis, but just wondering if anyone has come across this or if their doctors address diet.
Thank You

I’m interested in this post as well as I was recently diagnosed with high grade NMIBC and begin chemo next week. I don’t know if I am getting BCG or something else as I was told there has been a shortage of BCG in the U.S.

1 ReactionI have always eaten a lot of broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage and asparagus. I still do but now I’m adding a lot of fruits: apples, oranges, blueberries, strawberries, blackberries and bananas. Added a lot of avocados too. It can’t hurt me but I’m trying to change it up to help my immune system.

4 Reactions@kevinpm I have muscle invasive but also did the same. I don’t eat processed foods anymore either. Healthy foods taste great to me even more now.

1 ReactionI really didn't alter my diet much but did try to fast at least one day per week on Tuesdays, hoping the reaction to the fast after 36 hours would aid the BCG and anything else that might potentially help attack the cancer cells.

2 ReactionsI immediately eliminated all alcohol consumption and eat very few processed foods. I absolutely adore sparking water, which as we know can be a major bladder irritant- so now just one sparking water a week - on Fridays(lol). I also found water decaf low acid coffee on Amazon and that has made a HUGE difference, as well as RIP no chocolate. I found that the Pierre water I was drinking daily, along with caffeinated coffee and chocolate were major irritants for me. Oh I almost forgot grapefruit juice - love it, none of that either. So as y’all can see I was not doing myself any favors consuming all the major irritants.

3 ReactionsMy doctor suggested I try the Mediterranean Diet to avoid red meat and process food. I will definitely give it a try. I also cut caffeine and alcohol out of my diet. I haven't seen any changes yet as I am still recovering from my second TURBT to remove NMI high grade tumors Stage A. I had 1 round of BCG after the first TURBT and we are working on getting scheduled for another round and then maintenance BCG afterwards. I asked about GEM/DOCE but my urologist said it wasn't locally available.
Hardly any alcohol. Try to eat healthier. But since I am human sometimes I slip. I think gut health boosting through CBM588, Akkermansia, Camu Camu and general healthy bacteria (such as physicians choice 60B) is faster. This does not help BCG most likely but it is shown to help advanced ICIs such as ave, pembro, nivo and atezo.

3 ReactionsHi I was also diagnosed with High-Grade NMIBC. I am currently cancer free at month 6 from a Radical Cystectomy with Neo Bladder back in Oct of 2025. My PA (Dr) recommends a diet you are describing. So what you are doing is good. More dark green vegetables. I eat smaller meals more spread out. I am consuming a lot of broccoli sprouts as it ends up producing Sulforaphane, which is a potent sulfur-rich compound found in cruciferous vegetables—especially broccoli sprouts—known for its strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and potential anticancer properties. It is activated when vegetable tissues are damaged (chopped or chewed), releasing the enzyme myrosinase to convert glucoraphanin into active sulforaphane. It is known to potentially help cancer situations and health over all. I also am limiting any processed foods and trying to exercise as much as I can. Dealing with training my Neo Bladder is a huge challenge for me but I am getting better with it over time. I chose the procedure Radical Cystectomy with Neo Bladder as my Dr said it was the most curative plan for my situation.
I send you healing thoughts and positive energy and hope you have the best outcome for your situation.

7 ReactionsI've eliminated artificial sweeteners from my diet and choose to buy and eat organic foods as much as I can. I'm 2 years clean after 2 surgeries, office tumor removals, and at least 12 BCG treatments. I hope you have success with your treatment plan as well.
