Change in anxiety symptoms

Posted by lma84 @lma84, Jan 12 5:21am

I suffer from anxiety, mainly around my own health. Curious to know if others notice a change in the physical symptoms that anxiety produces, over time? Current flare up seems to have produced different symptoms again.

Mental health affects physical health and vice versa.

With your doctors approval try to find an exercise you like doing. Doing something you like is going to help you both mentally and physically.

If you really can't find an exercise you like (I love water aerobics) try to find a hobby you like. The same benefits can come from a hobby also to reduce stress and anxiety. Talk to your doctors abour the cause and affect that stress and anxiety has on the body and all the physical symptoms it causes.

There are many but I suggest talking to your doctor as we all respond to stress and anxiety diferently thus what I react to and have may not be the same for you and others.

@lma84 What particular symptoms are you seeing that are changing? I think for me, anxiety over different things happening seem to promote different reactions. Sometimes that's good, when I am able to pinpoint the reason for a symptom.

I’m having different anxiety symptoms. I have very small but noticeable (to me) twitching of my upper lip. I sent a video of it to my sister who did see it but says it is just stress. Does this happen to anyone else?

@writer413 I am a very anxious person too and suspect I have General Anxiety Disorder (GAD). I too get lip twitches as well as tingling, and my eyelids twitch too.

Have you seen your doctor, to rule out any other medical condition?

I have found that anxiety is mostly directly related to environment. For example, an upcoming exam at school, bullies threatening you, difficult situations at work, and even health conditions of loved ones that you can not control at all. I find an hour a day walk does wonders and has salvaged many days for me. Not only that, all the health benefits, both seen and unseen, that have accrued are priceless. Walking is a miracle medicine.

Any physical manifestation's in me seem to be subconscious and can be difficult to impossible to control. They can be embarrassing, even when they are noticeable to only a few perceptive people. Worse, some people make fun of it. And even worse than that, if you tell someone to stop it they might say "What? Are you crazy?".

But really, it's the right environment for me that relives most anxiety. When I lived in a safe place by the sea, with good, fresh, inexpensive food around, a relaxed atmosphere, with lots of things to do, walking trails and paths (of course) and perfect weather I felt so good and the only anxiety was the fun kind, like a bigger than expected wave crashing down on me or having to hustle to the ice cream stand before it closed for the night!

Yes, habitual anxiety can change your physiology. For me, Anxiety is Fear masked. Can you do some self help? Yes.
Anxiety draws us in towards withdrawal.
If we let It, Anxiety will control us.
When It has a great grip on us, our symptoms may heighten.
Can we defend ourselves from this wretched enemy? Yes.

I will speak from the viewpoint of the Bible.

Philippians 4:6-7
New American Standard Bible 1995
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all [a]comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

2 Timothy 1:7
New American Standard Bible 1977
7 For God has not given us a spirit of [a]timidity, but of power and love and a SOUND mind.

Isaiah 41:10
‘Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

1 Peter 5:6-8
New American Standard Bible 1995
6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, 7 casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. 8 Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Psalm 94:19
When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your consolations delight my soul.

Isaiah 35:4
Say to those with anxious heart, “Take courage, fear not. Behold, your God will come with vengeance; The recompense of God will come, But He will save you.

Matthew 6:25
The Cure for Anxiety
“For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?

Whether you are a Believer in God or not, His Truths are real.
These are life giving words and have been a Lifeline to me.

Our God, Creator does not want us to be anxious.
Why? He loves His creadtion.

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.

Psalm 9:10
And those who know Your name will put their trust in You, For You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.

Psalm 21:7
For the king trusts in the Lord, And through the lovingkindness of the Most High he will not be shaken.

Psalm 27:1
A Psalm of Fearless Trust in God.
A Psalm of David.

The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread?

Psalm 28:7
The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart exults, And with my song I shall thank Him.

Psalm 32:10
Many are the sorrows of the wicked, But he who trusts in the Lord, lovingkindness shall surround him.

James 1:5
But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

I pray these life giving words will help you conquer anxiety.
If you dont know God, you’ll see Him in these/His Words.
He doesnt want us to be anxious. He is Greater than anxiety.

Psalm 24:1
The earth is the Lord’s, and all it contains, The world, and those who dwell in it.
It might help to write these verses out in a journal and meditate on them.
Create a Blessing Book. Each night, write out the Blessings you were given: a smile from a stranger, a phone call with a friend, being brave getting outside your door even for a few minutes, a word you heard that inspired you, hearing the birds sing.
Look for them. God brings them.
Think and do these things,p,
In time you will recognize Gods strength in you.

Grace to you.

I have terrible anxiety,
Dry mouth
Shaking
Palpitations
Dizziness
Fast heartbeat
Sweating
My upper lip trembles
Feel the need to take deep breaths.
I was diagnosed with cancer Dec 2019, my husband passed away the following Feb, in 2020 with a heart attack. Then about that time Covid was around.
I am sure I have PTSD from all this. I have had the flu for 3 weeks now. Some better but the anxiety from being sick and overthinking about it is driving me crazy.
Panic attacks are a given now.
I constantly worry about this symptom and that symptom.

I'm sorry you are going through all that. It is awful. I have GAD and the symptom I have a hard time with is the brain fog feeling that I get. It's terribly annoying. On no meds at this time. Been there, done that. Cardiologist has me on Propranolol for palpitations that I had and anxiety. The medicine works for the physical symptoms but not the mind thoughts that you have with anxiety. 🙁

Not sure if words can help symptoms for anxiety. Many people do so many different things to alleviate this. Depression just adds to the complicated nature of mental stability. Try as I may , not sure about others, meds make me tired and worn out that just adds to the problem. Moods change as do behaviors. Some days are better some worse. There is no right or wrong way in dealing with anxiety. There are observations or recommendations. I talk about it. Walk thru it. Experience it. Do I come out on top. Not singularly but in combination with the many platforms available and help guides on line. There is enough to get me through one more day.

@redbird8857, you've been through a lot in a short period of time. It can take a toll on your mental health.

If you are still in care at a cancer center, you might asking about a consult with an oncology social worker to talk through what you are facing. Have you thought about talking with therapist? How are you doing today?
