Central retinal artery occlusion
Good day all! Yesterday I lost 100%% of the sight in my right eye. After a day of testing, etc. I was diagnosed with central retinal artery occlusion. Simply put they say I had a stroke in my right eye. The ophthalmologist said "99% the loss is permanent". Seeing a retinal specialist next week.
I am curious if anyone here has this condition and if your loss was indeed permanent.
Thanks for any input!
Strength, courage, and peace to all.

What an awful thing to happen during that operation. What are the odds of calcium going in there. Whatever I had in mine stopped just in time also before going to my brain. That’s why they sent me to the hospital. But it went down on its own. My son had a pig valve replacement for his aortic valve back in the early nineties.
How long has it been since you lost your sight in that eye. They say it can take several months. Mine happened on April 16th and it went from black to shards of light in a week then grey clouds on the top and bottom with limited central vision. Now the clouds are gone but very weird distorted vision. The eye strain is awful. Hoping for a slim chance of it getting better. Been a month and a half since this happened. Aware of it everyday as I am sure you are. In this day and age I would think there would something they could do.
Thank you so much for responding back and please let me know how you are doing with your sight and your valve replacement.

1 ReactionI had a similar retina occlusion in my left eye. Essentially all sight went black with no warning. Very scary! Visited ophthalmologist and was told retina cells were dead and loss was permanent.
I then saw a high level retina specialist. After extensive testing was told much of my vision would return in time.
I ended up with a cloud spot in center of vision but 70-75% did return over the year. My brain retrained itself to ignore the cloud area similar to how it blanks out floaters. Find an expert on retina damage And get an assessment is my suggestion. I still have better than 20/25 vision. I wish the best outcome for you.

2 ReactionsI was seeing bright flashing lights when I closed my eyes one weekend. I saw my PCP first thing Monday morning, who got me in to see Ophthalmologist same day, who got me in to see retina specialist next morning. Diagnosed with retinal vein occlusion.
I had several rounds of eye injections, and eventually the vein leakage has stopped and after several years, I no longer get the injections but my opthamalogist keeps a careful check on me.
I have a partial loss central vision in affected eye due to damage to optic nerve.
@mari, I also have to use drops. But I think they are now for my aging eyes and pressure.
Isn’t it wonderful that there are treatments available ❤️
