Celiac and Type two diabetes?

Posted by karlson @karlson, Apr 4, 2017

I have had celiac for two years and managed that quite well now diagnosed (in Dec. 2016) with type 2 diabetes. Is there a causal effect? I am hungry all of the time and have to eat something about every 2-2.5 hours. Aic numbers good. Blood glucose wanders. Am on 500 mg metformin once a day. My primary care doctor says.....'that's just you'. Wondering about solutions and suggestions.

Welcome @karlson.
According to the Celiac Disease Foundation "There is no established link between type 2 diabetes and celiac disease. Type 2 diabetes does have genetic components, but they are not associated with celiac disease genes like type 1 diabetes’ are."

Karlson, is weight gain becoming an issue for you with the constant hunger?

Thanks so much for the information and your reply! Indeed....weight gain with having to eat so often! I do take a vigorous 30 minute walk each day, joined a gym in my town (for bad weather days) and take walks around my home and also during commercial on TV. I eat wisely....no empty calories and count carbs regularly. Also feel tired and nauseated when I don't eat even though my blood glucose readings are well within the 'normal' range for me. Seems like I might have a food and calorie 'absorption' problem?? Clothes not fitting as before. I will check the links you have suggested. Thanks...glad to be a part of this group for help and support.
