CBD oil and depression/anxiety

Posted by lalyfa @lalyfa, Feb 24, 2018

I am curious to know if anyone has had success with CBD or Hemp oil helping with depression/anxiety? I’ve been reading a lot about it and am curious.
I’ve been reading about this and am very interested but would like thoughts/opinions from anyone who has actually tried it or knows someone who has. TIA

Thank you,
Laura

Glad you're off that stuff and sorry to hear about the hell of cold turkey on that stuff. I've had a taste of that horror missing doses of a benzo, clonazepam, and now tapering slowly over 5 months. The other things – weed psychological addiction, sugar, caffeine, gonna white knuckle the weed as I'm out soon and saving to take the bar exam. I'm going to try using CBD oil as I heard it's effective at reducing anxiety, lifting mood, and so on. Thank you for sharing and wishing you, too, and us all, good health and peace. Will ask my pharmacist about expected withdrawal. Thank you!

I have been totally off the effexor and all anti-depressants for 2 weeks now. The dizziness is getting much better however my emotions/agitation are horrible. I cry at everything and am extremely crabby/agitated. I realize most of this has to do with the withdrawal. I really want to see this through to find out if I can live without anti-depressants but at the same time I know it's very hard on my family. I have another doctor appt beginning of April and she says that if I don't feel better by then I most likely will need to go back on an anti-depressant. For the most part I agree with her. My hopes of proving her wrong as getting slim however. I'd like to know how long it took some of you who have withdrawn from anti-depressants to feel somewhat 'normal' or you knew you had to go back on them? I guess I'm asking if another month is a good amount of time for me to determine what I should do. In some ways I feel like I should start on them again now but I'm not going there yet? BTW, I am in no way feeling suicidal. Mornings seem to be my worst time and by early evenings I feel somewhat better – is this strange too? I haven't tried the CBD living water yet but did find a place near me to get it. Just havent had the time to get there. I also have the Ativan which I take one night to help with sleep. I'm trying not to take it unless really necessary. Tomorrow I have a huge even that my husband and I are in charge of so I'm planning to take an Ativan in the morning to get me through the day without falling apart (crying scene) in front of everyone (or yelling at them) :)! Thanks for all your input!!

@parus thank you for your reply! Wow I’m sure you went through much more than me but now your experience is helping others! I never thought to check with my pharmacist but it sounds like a wise suggestion! Thank you!

Curious as to where you got and what brand of CBD oil you are using?

Wishing you an easier coming off Lyrica. I can relate as I'm tapering off clonazepam 4 mg, under doctor recommended 5 month schedule, but getting off sugar and weed can also be temporarily hellish. But personal freedom from psychologically/physically addictive substances, to me, is well worth it. Wishing us all an easy time with this and future happiness and peace.

Supposed to be one of the purest and best. (I have no affiliation with the company, "Green Roads.") Their website – https://www.greenroadsworld.com/

I bought a one day supply (can be bought in economical sizes, too) 1 ML dropper under my tongue. I have to experiment / research the proper dosage for me.

Hi @lalyfa, I have been on a lot of antidepressants. Effexor, Celexa, Zoloft , Prozac, and recently Cymbalta (and a few I've forgotten) – cymbalta for fibromyalgia and depression. When I was younger in my 40's Effexor and Celexa did work but now that I am 60 and have more issues, they both caused electricity in my body. And I have enough of that so I couldn't stay on them. Cymbalta contributed to horrible insomnia. So I did a bit of research and bought some CBD oil and some gummies and I won't be buying them again. I don't think I felt any better with the oil. The gummies which run between $1 to $3 a piece may have helped w/depression a tiny tiny bit, not enough to continue to spend money on them. So overall I give the oil and gummies a zero. Everyone is different so who knows for you. And I believe they are legal in all states, but for me there was no difference on or off of them.

I'd like to suggest some supplements to those who, like me, may have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder / generalized anxiety disorder. I, too, take 60 mg Cymbalta and it helps but isn't the whole answer. I'm going to suggest supplements / activities that help me calm down and lift my mood. I'm not a doctor, so please check with yours first but, remember, MD doctors weren't trained about nutrition and supplements in med school. But, for me, these work well and may they help you, too. Ready? I suggest HIGHLY!!! – 1) Sam-e 400 mg daily, 2) Lithium Orotate (on Amazon) just 5 – 25 mg a day (experiment – it's a different form than lithium for bipolar so no lithium effects); 3) omegabrite — omegabrite.com – A top Psychopharmacologist suggested this to me and he takes it – you can take 5 – 6 capsules of omegabrite a day and you may see miracles as I did in feeling well; 4) B Complex 100 (I suggest the tops "Solgar" brand; 5) L-methylfolate 1mg plus a day; 6) sublingual B12 (5000 mg nuggets); 7) walking; 8) sitting quietly for 5 minutes + (no tv, phone, computer). I'm not a doctor so you'd have to check in case anything conflicts with what you're taking but they're all safe, I find, and work extremely well!!! Omegabrite and Sam-e are expensive but to feel good again, isn't it worth it? Wishing us all and loved ones good health and feeling well!

Oh, and as one ages, for good sleep especially, a good brand of Melatonin – 1 – 10 mg (I take about 5 mg) (Again, I'm not a doctor, just a good researcher) is crucial – from the pineal gland. Melatonin.
