Carvedilol & antidepressant
Just joined. So glad I found this group! I am taking 25mg of Carvedilol twice a day. I have been taking Duloxetine for depression and anxiety for years. My anxiety has been getting bothersome for a couple of months and my depression is bothering me a bit. Does anyone have experience with taking an antidepressant that can be taken with Carvedilol?
Thanks.

@loveitaly Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! Sometimes we need to modify our medications when we start a new regiment. It's so important to let our providers know all the medications we are taking. Also, a brick-and-mortar pharmacy can be a great source for information on your prescriptions and interactions, including when to take them to reduce cross-interactions.
Here is what drugs.com has to say about carvediloll and your antidepressant together: https://www.drugs.com/drug-interactions/carvedilol-with-cymbalta-531-0-949-2273.html#:~:text=DULoxetine%20may%20increase%20the%20blood,to%20safely%20use%20both%20medications.
Have you discussed the two drugs with your providers, yet?

This question is about carvedilol. I have been taking this med for about 6 years. I had a heart attack back then and was put on carvedilol along with brilinta because I am allergic to aspirin. I felt fine. About 2 years I had more blockages and now I have 9 stents. I feel awful, so weak, diarrhea, and I am lightheaded all the time and very off balance. I think it is the carvedilol, but none of my doctors seem to care about what I am saying, they keep telling me it is the best med out there for my heart and blood pressure. I also take insulin, protonix, furosemide and Lipitor. I am worried about what else has been happening to me, the bottom part of my blood pressure is staying at 58, and that is without the carvedilol? Thanks for listening.

You are taking quite a few medications and it might be helpful to request a medication reconciliation with your pharmacist. They can review all your meds and may suggest possible causes for your symptoms. See this related discussion:

@loveitaly, how long have you been on Carvedilol? Have you discussed potential drug interactions with your pharmacist?
I am having a lot of trouble with carvedilol. My heart rate is very low without it. I’m having pounding heart and irregular heartbeats. There is hardly a blood pressure med I can take without serious side effects. And yet they keep trying to put me on things that actually raise my BP instead of lower it. It’s very frustrating!! Right now I can’t get anything done because of the terrible side effects I’m having. Hopefully they will leave after another day. Does anyone else have trouble with almost all blood pressure meds?
I was recently put on Metoprolol after having a SCAD heart attack. I’m starting to notice a feeling of being off. Kinda lightheaded at times but I’m very gassy which is not normal. It rolls around like a gas ball and it causes intermittent chest pangs and shoulder discomfort. I get a slight headache now and again as well. I have to take Pepcid for relief and or tums. This is annoying to say the least so I started looking at other alternatives and carvedilol is on that list as well as furosemide. Since I’m new to this I’m not sure what to do so I’m gonna see if my cardiologist has another alternative. I have never had high blood pressure nor reflux nor massive gastrointestinal issues. My heart is free of plague as well. Not sure what to expect but after reading y’all’s info I’m gonna stay away from both of these and see about going a different direction. Any knowledge is good so do research and if your dr is blowing you off get another opinion for sure. I wish you all the best on your journey.
Sorry for your difficulty. We all struggle to get on the right heart meds. Tell your doctor you are feeling dizzy, For example use a scale like 1-10 and say how frequently: all day even at night, or everytime I stand up. Indigestion most of the time belching, gas pain etc. Don't accept meds that make you sicker and make life worse. Not every med can be tolerated by every person.
Not every med proscribed is going to work for you. Keep trying to find a med that does not make your life worse and your body reject it with many phyical and mental side effects.
