Carotid left artery surgery
It’s me again. Yes, 8 weeks ago this coming Monday I had my left Carotid Artery Surgery. No Stent. Cleaned out. I no longer hear my heart beating in my left ear. I am still numb, neck area, ear hurts at times, swollen. Surgeon said, it was well over 75% blocked. 8 weeks prior it was 50%. Before I went to see Surgeon they started me on 75mg Plavix. I think that was the dose. On my 2 week follow up Surgeon said I don’t need that I can take 81mg Aspirin. Uncoated bothered me so I started coated. Still bothered me. So I stopped taking it three days ago. Does anyone out there think it’s a big deal if I don’t take the Aspirin. It will be 8 weeks tomorrow. I am just still fill off. I think it’s the Aspirin. TY 😊

Whether any of us 'thinks' it's a big deal or that it isn't, doesn't make your prescription wrong. It might actually be very dangerous for you to have no anti-platelet therapy going on. It may be that in time you can stop it, but for now, I would not want to second-guess my expert care. Tell your care givers what you're experiencing. Maybe they can offer you something that is decent protection but that you can tolerate better.
A LOT DEPENDS ON HOW YOU TAKE THE ASPARIN. IF YOU TAKE IT ON AN EMPTY STOMACK IT IS MORE LIKELY TO BOTHER YOU. BIG BRAND NAME ASPARIN BOTHERS ME. WALGREENS DOESEN'T AND I TAKE IT WITH FOOD. HOPE THIS HELPS.

Darn, I hate to hear you are having problems. But…..yes, @oliver8112000 I do think it is a big deal for you to quit taking aspirin or it would not be part of your treatment plan. I say this not in anyway as a medical professional, but as a patient with recent experience with what you are asking. Having said this, it also seems like a perfect time to challenge your doctors and learn exactly how aspirin is helping you. This way you will know!
I recently had GI testing done and learned aspirin is causing a problem. My primary doctor and cardiologist agree I need it so we are heading the direction of @gloaming’s recommendation, of figuring out how to best protect my stomach so I can take aspirin. This does require taking something else but they agree the benefits outweigh the risks. I noticed the medication list on my primary doctors appointment summary says I am taking aspirin in the morning. I don’t, but now that combined with @mzpat’s comment has me thinking changing the timing of when I take it may help. I plan to keep asking questions.
I am interested to hear more about what you find out. Do you have another appointment scheduled? Are you able to call your doctors office and have a conversation with them?
Hello, I am going to attempt to call tomorrow but it is Holiday. So if he is not in I will call Tuesday. I did take 1 81mg Coated Aspirin tonight. Thank you.😊
I am interested to hear how you are doing as you work through continuing to take aspirin. Please do come back and provide updates.
I started a PPI last week to protect my stomach and for the 2nd time, woke up in the middle of the night feeling nauseous. I am going to move aspirin to breakfast so it is with food, hopefully that will do the trick.
It sounds like cleaning your left carotid has improved blood flow but you are uncomfortable, still recovering. Do you have another follow-up appointment scheduled?
I have been on blood thinners for many years. It must be twenty tears since I was taking 75ml (childrens) Aspirin and as i was alone at home having what I know now was a TIA i took six at once . The stroke ward consultant says the Aspirin saved me from severe symptoms or even death.
However I was moved on to Clopidrogrel for my stroke/heart problems Much easier on the stomach. Now with Heart Failure/ Stenosis etc my eminent Consultant Cardiologist Professor has put me on Apixaban 5ml film coated tablets one Morning and Night. Problem solved, no stomach upset. Suggest you mention these alternatives to your doctor.
Hello. Thank you so much for the advice and alternatives. I definitely will. I will be calling him tomorrow. 🙏🏻
Hello yes I think it is early November. I am going to try and call tomorrow and explain how I am feeling. Thing is I also have so many other health issues too. Big puzzle. ??? I am like a special type of patient, if you will given my history. 🤷♀️
