Can we gain bone density with just supplements?
I got diagnosed with osteoporosis 4 years ago, and I refused the medication because the side effects, I’m 60 years old and have been taking supplements and exercises regularly, after my dexa my doctor told me that my osteoporosis is getting worse and wants me to take TYMLOS, I’m horrified just to think about injecting this medication into my body every day, anyone on this medication?

@jahnaviabhi I suggest you get calcium from food
@maryandnans I did ask my doctor if I can eat curry leaves everyday in raw form which I can do easily. She said that i will not be able to get magnesium, vitamin K from them. Wanted me to take the supplements. I wish I have a solution to this. I will try asking my doctor the same question.

1 ReactionI'm on my 6th month of Tymlos and having great results. My P1NP increased 297%. I only have a raised heart rate for a little while and that's it. I too avoided medication, but after a broken wrist and 3 stress fractures in my feet I needed to do something. You should see fantastic results if you haven't already taken bifosomates. I don't think I spelled that right! Try it and see. I also started hrt one month before the Tymlos which shoyld help my results per research with Forteo, which is a similar drug. Good luck.

I too have followed a similar protocol to you. I’ve either had stable or improved scores since 2018. Last year I was inactive for about 9 months due to knee injury playing pickleball. My scores did decline somewhat and Dr started pushing meds again. I’m now back at the gym 3 days a week. Here are a few insights to some other thoughts in improving bone health You may already know about them but just in case.
1. I have recently switched to goats milk as studies have shown the calcium is better absorbed than from cows milk.
2. Also started drinking extra virgin olive oil that is high in poly phenols as clinical studies have shown this to be beneficial.
3. Other studies are showing high grade matcha (ceremonial) can help improve bone turnover markers.
4. And my latest discovery (last night) is that melatonin is undergoing clinical trails for use in osteoporosis. Sleep is when your body works to improve your bone health so now I’m on a mission to improve my quality of sleep.

I know exercise helps. I do 40 minutes of walking each day but am unable to do upper body strengthening, which I know helps too. I did Actonel for five years, with no side effects,which helped to slow it. Each person is unique. To know your body helps and to listen to it. All we can do is try and then proceed.
@frog100: Tai Chi is a safe way to add upper body work-out that might work for you. I have added this to my regime for osteoporosis treatment -45min 1/week. It has been helpful in regaining upper body strength in an easy, fun way. I just finished 12 mo of Evenity & eager to see results of DEXA scan mid-summer (doc says it continues to work in system for several months after 12mo).
