Can somebody please translate this report for me?

Hello-

My mother had a similar issue about a year ago, and now she was having the same symptoms for the past few months. She was coughing a lot and having difficulty breathing. The scans have shown mucous build-up in her lungs. A year ago, the doctor did not even consider a fungal infection which I brought up at a follow-up appointment, and they ended up treating her for that. It got better, but something seems to have returned. Both times they diagnosed her with pneumonia. She had a procedure the other day, and they cleared out some of the mucous, so her breathing has improved. I have attached two photos of the report that I read in her online account. Still waiting to hear back from the doctor with the biopsy results. Thanks, everybody!

@dmbteach222 I think you can breathe a sigh of relief. From my layperson point of view, the CT findings, are comparable to the one last year. Your Mom apparently has a collapsed upper lobe of her right lung, and the "debris" reported is quite possibly artifacts of the fungal infection, or whatever caused the lung collapse in the first place (it could have happened a long time ago, as they did not treat it as a new issue last year.)

I also think your suspicion about the infection returning may be correct - fungus, especially in the lungs, is notoriously hard to eliminate and must often be treated repeatedly, or with multiple antifungal meds. Rick, @rstel7272 can possibly share his experience with you.

Thank you for taking care of your Mom!

Thank you so much for the quick response! I do not have a lot of faith in this doctor, and I am trying to convince my mom to see another doctor since he did not even consider a fungal infection last year when I went with her to the doctor's office. I had to bring it up. He actually had forgotten that he even did a test to see if it was fungal.

Yikes! Is this a pulmonologist? If not, can you convince her that 2 infections in a row, plus a compromised lung, make it important to see a specialist?

Yeah, it is a pulmonologist. He is a nice guy, and she thinks that makes him a good doctor, but I beg to differ. I am going to make her see a second doctor as soon as the report comes back.

Your Mom needs a second opinion, sooner rather than later. The chest xray should have a conclusion or diagnosis or followup recommendation. It would be helpful to see that.
