Can one stop taking prolia after the first shot?

Posted by imatine @imatine, Mar 6, 2021

Hello everyone, my mom is 84 year old and she got osteoporosis since 8 years. She took prolia last October. She started to feel a lot of pain in her legs now. I am thinking she shouldn't take the 2nd shot but I am afraid of the consequences. Did anyone here stop the prolia at an early stage!? If so what happened? Thank you

I do not know how old you are.

If you have knee arthritis, you need to build up the muscles in the ankles and knees.
Have you considered one on one osteoporosis PT classes?

Are you dealing with plantar fasciitis in your ankle?

Thanks for your suggestions. I'm 68. I've done the PT classes. I have nerve damage from chemo in my legs, foot, and hands and learned to do everything slow. I've been very active before cancer and osteoporosis, always working the muscles . I work out daily most weeks.(I like to call it working out instead of Physical therapy!)

You're right, working the muscles helps so much. I can tell if I miss a day.

Same thing happened to me. I took Prolia in January. By April, I could not take the pain in my legs and I have a high tolerance for pain. I refused the second shot. I have severe oseoporosis-3.7 in the dexa scan. Doctor said to increase calcium intake, eat more cheese, keep walking and exercising, no bending or lifting- and see what the next test results are. The doctors don't like it, and say it's risky, but the Prolia is dibilating. If the osteoporosis gets worse, I will try another type of injection if I can, but they really all have side effects.

I hope she finds something to help.

Ditto. Can barely walk . Took shot in June. Pain within a month . I couldn’t take any of the oral medication because of my stomach. I’m done with these meds. I have RA too but this is diff. This is not worth the leg pain.
