Can Neuropathy be cured?

Posted by catstx @catstx, Sep 8, 2021

I’ve had P. neuropathy for 30 years. Just recently I’ve better controlled my blood sugar. So, I’m wondering if Neuropathy ever goes away, Or, if once the nerves are dead they’re just dead

Welcome @jackhickey, diabetic neuropathy is probably the one neuropathy where it might be possible to treat the cause of neuropathy with the possibility of reversing the symptoms of neuropathy in my non medical opinion.

This isn't related to diabetic neuropathy but it is about reversing type 2 diabetes and might be helpful -- Dr Jay Wortman Diabetes Remission is Surprisingly Simple!

Have you been diagnosed with neuropathy caused by diabetes?

Yes. I've been reading about optical and ultasonic techniques for restoring health to nerve cells. My background is in lasers and electro-optics. It's amazing what modern LED's can provide across the IR to UV spectrum. And, they can provide extremely high peak powers and sub-nanosecond pulse widths.

If Anti MAG Antibodies are causing neuropathy, there's a 50% or less chance that Rituximab may help. Whether this disease is caused by diabetes is not known.

You will need to spend ten of thousands first and then research and finally told that there is 'NO CURE' !

You are correct. There is nothing to relief the burning stacbbing horrible feelings from my hips down. Everyone wants to days it’s anxiety and depression but it’s not. It hurts so bad I could cry all day. And don’t get to sleep but a few hours before the pain wakes me up. Any suggestions?

I am 55. I can provide some insight about Peripheral Neuropathy with no harm to discourage you. But, I am a diabetic II since 2017 (after stroke) which was not known beforehand. My PN (feels as walking barefoot on broken glass) started approximately 2018 with my toes then affected my feet. They became tingling and numb but I just ignored it and thought it would just go away in time. I was deadly wrong!

My A1 have been between 9 and 11 for many years. Until this day, I am unable to drop below 9.

Then, early 2019 is when PN start to escalate it moved upwards to calves and thighs then waist. Sadly, I became impotent and barely able to walk and painful nerve shocks started to occur within my entire legs. And I started to lose a lot of weight. I used to weigh 170 and weight shrunk drastically to 109 with severe PN and diabetes.

Initially, I visited emergency rooms, hospitals, clinics, neurologist, etc as PN became so unbearable and extremely painful ! ALL doctors and specialist only provided band-aids to help ease the discomfort such as gabapentin, juniva, insulin, deloxine, etc which was a waste of time and of course, lots of money. The ultimate cure was to amputate toes, feet, and/or legs. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NOT AN OPTION AS I COULD NOT LIVE WITH IT !!!

I wear special shoes with cushions to help walk as I still do not feel my feet (tingling and numb) and barely my legs plus unfortunately impotent until this day. Now, I am insulin dependent as I check my glucose 3 times a day. I have short and long lasting insulin injections to help drop my glocuso especially when I eat and as far as PN, I ignore the discomfort and pain. And take rubbing reliefs such as Vapor Rub and Icy Hot, etc. and heavily rely on sleeping pills in hope I do not overdose on them….

To say the least, I constantly worry that these medical conditions will eventually get the best of me but continue to pray that I will be ok.

I adopted a pretty German Shepherd which I walk and exercise almost everyday! I know for a fact it won't completely cure PN but somewhat believe its doing more good than before….

Please exercise and eat healthy!

My prayers are with all of you.

See my post below.

But you may try sleeping pills to avoid the sleepless nights as I did. Just don't overdose. And try rubbing pain reliefs such as Vapor Rub , Vicks, Icy Hot, etc. and I rub cream twice a day from feet, legs, waist...

Gagapentin has helped me alot as I read from others who suffer from neuropahy. When I have forgotten to take my night time dose I have woke in sweat, burning feet, and aching sometimrs all over but mostly my legs to lower stomach.Last night I took my medicines including gabapentinand woke with burning feet and achying legs. I have to call my Dr about invreasing my dose again. He has told me there is a limit.
Dont know when that will be ,he says there are other medicines to try after that. I have been in touch with Loma Linda medical neuropathy clinic.
If I did not need to care for my wife I would have already given their INF treatment program a try. Its a free video consultation with a MD And I would like to give it a try they have had somr impressive results
I pray to out Lord Jesus Christ that you find some relief it is truly unimaginable for some to understand how it effects you especially as it progresses God bless you Jesus knows and cares.

Because there are no tried and true treatments for my axonal polyneuropathy and Anti MAG Antibodies I try to keep what strength and muscle that is in my body and build on that. I exercise to keep what strength I have in my body. I work at walking a couple miles/day and building muscles. Aquatic Exercise with foam barbells is my go to because, I cannot fall and hurt myself in the pool. Tai Chi is also great for balance. "If you don't use it, you'll lose it" is apt for this disease.

Hi Michhino. I too feel like I'm walking on glass like rocks and pebbles for the last few years. Over that timeframe my PC doc has increased my script of gabapentin to 3600 mg daily. Lately I am now tapering back down to 2700. If needs be I will use 4% lidocaine gel on my feet . If needs be some CBD cream at nite or cbc gummies may help as well. Keep excercising and experimenting and hoping. This is a marathon not a sprint. May I ask how much gabapentin you got approved for daily and at what times of the day? Johnmacc
