Can ERCP surgery to remove stone from bile cause AAA to enlarge?

Posted by dpbendorf @dpbendorf, 3 days ago

AAA 3.1 in May 2022 and 17 Nov 2022. Gall Bladder removed went bad and had an unsuccessful ER P attempt on 22 Nov. Was in surgery over 5 hours for this procedure which did lead to pancreatitis. Later transported to the University of Maryland hospital in Baltimore Stone removed by a very competent doctor in 1/2 hour. Following this fiasco I have an AAA of 4.1 on 27 Nov 2022. It has not changed since then and is now tested every 6 months. Could the unsuccessful ERCP have caused the immediate growth of the AAA in a weeks time?

Was the 3.1 cm measurement taken using CT or at least the same method as your subsequent measurements? Different methods give different results. In your case that is a full cm difference in a short period of time (again assuming measurements were taken consistently). A good aortic specialist should be able to answer your questions (a cardiologist who specializes in aortic diseases, not all of them do and makes a difference)

Yes, same method and same clinics for 3.1. 4.1 was the same clinic and verified twice by Johns Hopkins, main campus.

Also, not looking for anything other than can a surgery cause this to happen. The ERCP doctor was very evasive. It was supposed to be 1/2 hour but I was not back to my room until 7 hours later. Just want to feel a little more relieved, if possible. I will continue my 6 month checkups at j.h.
