Many mini strokes, diabetes and high blood pressure thus the diagnosis of cerebral microvascular disease. Wondering about the use of gabapentin being part of the cause.

Hi, @dschultz. Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. You've been through quite a lot medically.

Here is some Mayo Clinic information regarding gabapentin and side effects, since you were wondering about its possible connection to cerebral microvascular disease:
- Gabapentin (oral route) https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/gabapentin-oral-route/description/drg-20064011

For what condition were you taking gabapentin? At what dosage and for how long were you taking it?

Hello @dshultz, I would like to add my welcome to Connect along with @lisalucier and others. I only took gabapentin for a few weeks so don't really have much experience to share. I stopped taking it because I only have numbness with my neuropathy and it wasn't helping. I discussed stopping it with my primary care doc who consulted with her team and confirmed that the drug doesn't help numbness symptoms. I did type your question into Google Scholar which is a tool I often use for locating research papers. It did find a lot of articles but I don't think there is a clear cut answer to your question. Here's the search results if you would like to tweak the wording of the question which will find more specific articles - https://scholar.google.com/scholar
