Calf discolouration

Posted by muz2020 @muz2020, 10 hours ago

Hi,
I have had permanent AF for a few years now and find that both leg calf muscles are turning a different shade, almost a very dark pinkish red colour.

Can anyone shed some light on this or how a can reverse the skin colour.
It is only in my ankles and calves.
Thanks

muz. AF can result in chronic venous insufficiency. It might be small vessel disease where small vessels burst and leaving extra iron in your tissue which can stain the skin. You might want to see a vascular specialist, to check. Best wishes.

Hello @muz2020,

I second @gently's advice to check with your cardiologist or a vascular specialist sooner rather than later. Blood clots can be a risk factor with Afib, https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/atrial-fibrillation/symptoms-causes/syc-20350624. While this may not be exactly what you are experiencing, any changes in skin color or feeling when you have a known cardio issue could be signs you want to get looked at by a medical provider.

@muz2020, has the change been sudden? Is there any pain? These are factors you will want to consider when seeking some medical guidance as well.
