C Diff PCR results
Hi all, my GI tested me (PCR only) and it came back positive. He does not preform EIA (toxins) testing. I have no loose stools but still have fatigue, stomach feeling super full after eating and most of the time no appetite although I still push myself to get in at least 1500 calories a day (sometimes 2000 by the hardest). I actually went from 96-100 pounds in a couple of weeks but I’m now fluctuating between 98-99lbs.
How am I supposed to know if I require further treatment without toxin testing? How do I know that I do not have an active infection? I’m so anxious with all of this. I’ve read many times people are active but do not have diarrhea and need treatment.
Thanks

atypical c. diff occurs without the well-known watery diarrhea but patient has nausea, lower left quadrant pain, and fatigue. There's also asymptomatic carrier of c. diff
Did you try to see an infectious disease specialist? They are best at treating Cdiff and advise if you need further treatment. I have never done a PCR myself just the regular toxin test so I am not sure what is the difference... please keep me posted on what you decide.
Original gi said I need to treat positive pcr, second opinion gi said no treatment for positive pcr due to no diarrhea or stomach cramping. I’m so confused at the moment.
Looks like you are on the way to recovery but it will take time. Again I am still dealing with it myself upset stomach and nausea and the fun stuff. It will take time to heal. I have been using avocado oil to cook with and olive oil on salads. Keep me posted with your progress!
Super clean diet I’m sure will make it hard to gain. I hate that I’m eating such high carbs but I need the weight. I find the enzymes did give me upset stomach but they also resulted in an end to undigested food in stools.
Super greens are just the fun of the mill Country Farms ( sure it’s not the best).
Two protein smoothies a day with about 7-800 calories due to putting banana, avocado, almond butter, potato starch, kefir. In a week or so I will try coconut milk and possibly a small but if coconut oil.
Hello to all of you who are dealing with C-diff. I had it several years ago and my doc misdiagnosed it and had it not been for a doctor friend I hate to think what would have happened. She had me send a stool sample to the lab and called me within 12 hours to say that it definitely was C-diff and she prescribed meds to help clear it up and told me to eat yogurt, drink buttermilk if I could, and keep hydrated with gatorade or Pedialite that children drink. I surely thought I was going.to die and might have, had I not called her and told her how sick and scared I was. It took at least 6 months to really get strength back normal. Hang in there all of you and if your doc isn't helpful, find another one! Best wishes~~Baz10
It took me about 6 weeks to be able to gain 4 pounds and now stopped gaining stable since mid November not being able to gain anymore. I am like you always worried about the weight and ensuring I am getting enough calories. Your diet from what you listed before seems healthy. I tried digestive enzymes but caused me upset stomach and one of the specialist doctor told me he doesn’t like them so I didn’t continue with them only tried them for couple days. I am now eating raw vegetables and salads and just started 85% dark chocolate that’s the only sugar I eat. I eliminated all added sugar and no fats in my diet and eating very clean and that’s probably why I cannot gain more weight. What super greens you are having? Juices?
How long did it take you to gain the 4 and how long has it been that it’s stopped? Do you take digestive enzymes? That one I added to the mix. I also just started today with my super greens again hoping to get a bit of extra nutrients in the mix beings my diet is far from good at the moment.
Gaining the weight as well is a good sign means your body is absorbing the nutrients. I am still not able to gain all my weight that I lost back. Only gained 4 pounds and stopped.
It was from designs for Heath GI microbx but even this kill good gut bacteria because it is antimicrobial so I wouldn’t suggest it since you are already 7 weeks post antibiotic. I took this when I was only two weeks post antibiotic. It took me good 4 month to stop experiencing the nausea in the morning it woke me up at 5 am. And even until now I experience it sometimes and the loss of appetite. Feeling full it is all the inflammation in your stomach caused by the cdiff infection. the slippery elm and marshmallow root you are taking will help it is like a powder I took called GI revive. I know what you mean about doctors I had to do everything on my own and with the help of asking people. Naturopathic helped me a lot. Seems your stool is not bad and this is a good indication. If you had an active infection you would be going more to the bathroom. But all what you are feeling I felt for good 4 month and now still not feeling great still dealing with it. Give it time. Heard from others it would take several months until your body adjust. Please keep me posted what you decide to do.
