Burning nerve pain that goes from my vagina, buttocks, and down leg

Posted by mllyster @mllyster, May 15 12:50pm

I have a constant pain in my buttocks. It is painful to sit, it feels like i am sitting on a hard lump, or an object is in my anus. The pain goes from there to the perineum and genital region. I have general numbness, coldness and loss of sensation in my leg, feet, and buttocks.
The burning and pain is worse in the evening and is aggravated by lifting anything. Could this be caused by my pudendal nerve?

myllster, it could well be. The trouble is that it could be something else. The increasingly common rectal cancers could cause the same. You have to see a doctor. Sorry. But, if it is something pressing on the pudundal nerve you will probably find a fairly simple relief. You might schedule with a gastroenterologist and while you wait for the appointment see a chiropractor. If the chiropractor fixes the pain including the lump, you can cancel the GI appointment.

Thank you for your reply. I have had a colonoscopy to rule out any cancer or polyps. I have seen chiropractors, naturopaths, physio therapists, and had acupuncture. Unfortunately with no results

How long have you had this pain? You should be seen asap to make sure you do not have cauda equina of the lumbar spine. Possibly consider going to the ER. This sounds neurological.

If you have had this pain for a while, have you seen an orthopedic spine specialist and neurologist? You need MRIs of your lumbar and pelvis/hips to check for spinal cord compression, nerve root/nerves causing radiating compression and soft tissue injury/inflammation. You may also need an EMG/nerve conduction study of your lower limbs.

I agree it is issue with lumbar area. A similar incident happened to me 20 years ago which took me several months to figure out. I was walking down carpeted stairs in my socks and half way down I skidded over several steps on my coccyx bone. I saw I was initially ok enough to get up and felt ok. Fast forward about a month I started feeling pain in my vaginal area enough to go to a gynecologist but everything checked out fine. I never connected slipping on the stairs with this new pain since a month had passed. I then started getting pain down my right leg and went to a chiro who took X-rays and said I had a slight herniated disc. After researching further I read an article that lower disc issues can cause referred pain in vaginal area and with urinating and bowel movement discomfort. Have you had any falls or something happening involving your back, or even sitting. I find if I sit too much, my butt and leg acts up to this day.

About 50 years ago I was thrown from the back of a motorcycle when the front spokes broke and was catapulted 150' down a cliff. I broke my pubic bone. I keep trying to think if there was anything else, but can't come up with anything

@mllyster Pundental nerve pain can also be the result of a pelvic alignment issue. Since you describe it changing with different body positions and being aggravated by lifting weight, that certainly would put more stress on your pelvis and could change the pressure on a problem spot. The pelvis is jointed and can be pulled out of shape. It has muscle attachments to the spine and legs that will pull against the pelvis with different actions. A physical therapist may be of help for an evaluation. They frequently see and treat people with pelvis dysfunctions.

I have had similar pain and had a mri on my back and showed severe spinal stenosis on my L5, just had an injection for that and hopefully it will help with some of the pain

Same...stupidly wore socks down my uncarpeted stairs and landed on the sacroiliac joint in my lower back. Pain in groin, buttocks, and down my right leg. I know the pain down my right leg is sciatica. I will see a spine specialist in 2 weeks to have an MRI to see if I did any damage in the fall and hopefully will be scheduled for a steroid injection.
