Posted by ristu @ristu, Feb 22, 2019

I have BMS 3 years now. Has anyone had pain, and inflammation relief from GABA capsules, or liquid ? Vitiman B12 ?

Hi. I'm not sure if B12 would be the answer for me. I've tried all the mouthwashes and rinses. Absolutely worthless to me, unfortunately. Regards Stu.

I have also found that "TopCare" sore throat lozenges help at night when mine is the worst. They contain benzocaine which numbs the mouth. It's temporary but helps me sleep. I also read that people on metoprolol can suffer from burning mouth. I am going to ask my cardiologist today. I am on it for a-fib as it keeps my heart rate under control. May have to try different med.

Al, do you know if you have primary burning mouth syndrome or secondary BMS related to other underlying conditions? What are you symptoms like?

New to the group, have been diagnosed with primary BMS and have had for about 9months. Have been using Clonazapam oral rinse swish and spit for 3 months. It helps but still have days that are bad. Noticed people talking about vit B12. Are there studies to support its use.

@pim9, I have burning mouth syndrome and I take 2-3 tablets of Clonazepam .5 mg. This was initially prescribed by the head of oral pathology at our local dental school. He said it was all he knew that would help. My PCP now prescribes this for me. It really does help. At first, it made me sleepy in the morning, but no longer does. I usually get by on 2 per day. I take one at lunch and one with dinner. This really has worked for me. I hope it will work for you. Best wishes, @joybringer1

After 6 yrs I told my doctor at Mayo- Dr. C Loftus about my mouth and tongue. ( I thought I was imagining it , since occurred after ostomies) . But he wants to do blood work and said they have a burning mouth clinic at Mayo. I also have had growth of bone out in my gum line and dentist “ poo. Poos” it .And cannot drink out of any plastic without exacerbating burning mouth.

I have had BMS (starting as OLP) for many years. Seen top oral pathologists in NYC and Boston (including one who treats BMS). What I
learned is that there is no reasonable treatment for these problems, much less a cure. It seems to be a life sentence.
