Breathing issues after having Brain Stem Stroke
I had a moderate ischemic right side brain stem stroke in January 2026, and now experiencing breathing issues. What can I take to help with breathing, and can this be fixed?

Since my mini strokes my sense of smell is not working correctly. Many times in one day when inhaling the fragrance I sense is chemical in nature not unlike ammonia.
Hi, @1950mustang. That is unfortunate you are experiencing breathing issues. Has the doctor who treated you for stroke weighed in on whether the breathing issues could be due to the stroke and given you a treatment plan?

After my MRI my family Dr. said he was booking an appointment with a Neurologist. That is a one year wait.

1 Reaction@lisalucier I live in a rural smaller community. I received no information or what to expect from any doctor, and was never referred to a neurologist.

1 Reaction@1427donwood sounds familiar here in the midwest..year long waits for appointments..no real answers to questions. Guess every person, and every stroke is different..hard to diagnose.

@1950mustang - really sorry to hear that. Have you considered going to a university medical center in your region?
Yes...thank you for suggestion. We do have a great university hospital 2 hrs from us..have had so many other appointments there..hesitate to make one more appointment when distance requires a stable driver. Will do this when I run out of options.
