Bradycardia and abnormal ECG
Good morning! My name is Brenda and I am brand new to MayoConnect. I am a 63 yr old female with family history of heart issues. Regardless how well I maintain my body I still have issues with my heart. I have had numerous stents, angios and a triple bypass. I also have bradycardia and my ECGs are always "abnormal". My HR is most always in the mid-40s to mid-50s unless I am exerting myself then on rare occasions I may reach 80. I have presaure on my chest that can move into my neck and arm as well. I was just wondering at what point do I ask about a pacemaker? My mother also had one.

You are completely correct to question this situation. Maybe you're on medications like beta blockers that are contributing to the slow rate. But 40's is really low and could be indicative of more than one kind of electrical malfunction. And if it is accompanied by angina-like symptoms, then maybe your cardiac output is simply not high enough to meet your heart's oxygenation needs. Investigation is called for by Cardiology/ Electrophysiology. Some practices includes both specialties, which can translate to good communication between docs. Good luck.
