Bottled Water

Posted by n4seth @n4seth, May 28, 2020

Are most of you drinking bottled water? If so, does any bottled water do? I am guessing you need to know what you are getting in the bottle. I am currently boiling my water at home for 10 minute, but if and when I ever get out again, I am guessing I will want to take bottled water with me. I am interested to know what other folks are doing. Thank you!

I saw a post somewhere and it talked about bottle water that has been tested and the manufactures. Does anybody know which types of water that is?

Dr Joe Falkinham, who is viewed as the guru of NTM in water, recommends bottled spring water - it has consistently been shown in tests by his university lab to have the least NTM. He mentions a few by name, but says most should be safe, as they come right from the ground without running through a local water supply. In my travels I have found that every brand of spring water is not necessarily available nationally, so I use what I can find.
He cautions against "bottled drinking water" - which is often just local tap water with minerals added. Many of the best-known brands are just that so read the labels.

Sue, what about the so called “purified water” is it comparable to spring water? Is one recommended more than the other? Thank-you.

The caution says specifically that purified, filtered or otherwise water from municipal water supplies should not be considered safe. I don't have the links right now as we're on the road, but I'm sure it has to do with inconsistencies in processing. Very fine filters and sophisticated sterilization would be required. Spring water, on the other hand comes out of the ground pure and makes a short trip into the bottle.

What is the best water to drink? I have been on the big 3 for 22 months and one Dr says bottled water is ok and the other says filtered water from the fridge. What is my safest bet?

One thing I definitely try to avoid is water from a filter in the fridge, as it has an extra opportunity to sit in possibly contaminated tubing. I drink water from my tap that comes from my well, but not the fridge. At other locations, with municipal water systems, I use a Steripen.
If you are talking about filtered through Life Straw that is what is recommended.

I am probably being over cautious, however for now, I am boiling all water before using it....be it tap water, purified water, spring water or and distilled water.
What I found.
When I boiled Great Value (Walmart) Spring Water, in a good old fashioned Pyrex Glass Pot, what was showing in the water during and after reaching the boiling point was white mico particles that were floating in the water and also clinging to the sides of the pot. Not having noticed it, so far ,when boiling purified or distilled water in the same pot .....meaning I did not see or have white particles that were floating in the water or clining to the sides of the pot.
I wonder...of course if it is just Great Value (Walmart) Spring Water...??
Maybe the brand makes a difference or where or what Spring they get their water from????
Any thoughts about the white micro particles..... as to what they might be??? Calcium???
I used that water on my plants with being concerned with what I saw.

Plastic nano particles? But then again I'm not sure with the human eye we could see those.

I've read that boiling water then filtering that water eliminates 80% of plastic particles but there's more to study on this issue before proven.

The bottom line limit use of water from plastic containers. I would consider traveling limited exposure in the scheme of things. What I do is opt for tap water filtered with Life Straw or boiled tap water. If I'm a restaurant I drink the water as served preferably without ice. Limited use without driving yourself crazy.

Hi, if you are drinking bottled water, make sure it is Spring water. Don’t drink purified or distilled. Dr Joe Falkinham is the expert on this. You can find him on YouTube NTM ir

Yes, thank you. I have listened to his video and we have emailed each other. He has been very kind in his reply. I have been boiling all types of waters in hopes of doing right by myself.
The problem to me is not knowing the source of the water....where/what Spring they sourced the water from and how good or properly the producer handles it from Spring to customer. So, I prefer to boil all waters. So far it hasn't been that much trouble. So far!!!
THANKS for your post.

You’re welcome Barbara. If you have something that’s working, that’s great! I keep finding out new things everyday. When I was at National Jewish Health, I had a meeting with Dr Chan that works with Dr Falkinham. Would you be comfortable sharing his email? Dr Chan says he loves speaking to patients and I would love to email him. Thanks!
