BLOOD THINNER AND VITAMIN E
I am still on my blood thinner, xeralto, after a successful ablation. Now, I have been diagnosed with macular degeneration and need to take eye vitamins. I looked up medicine that might be a problem and it says the vitamin e in the vitamin may effect blood thinners. Does anyone have information about this? I will see my afib doctor in June. I have been taking the vitamins because I need them for my eyes now.

Vitamin E has been long known to cause blood thinning. If you are on a blood thinner or anti clogging medications like Eliquis I would caution taking Vitamin E also. Talk to your cardiologist or even a pharmacist to get medical feedback on this.
I used to take it many years ago but was also taking aspirin. I was told to come of the Vitamin E by my Mayo doctors.

The small amount in something like Preservision or a multi-vitamin shouldn't be a problem. Oily vitamins line E or Fish Oil have a pretty weak correllation to bleeding.
Even so, if you're taking high doses of E, like 400iu or higher daily, it would likely be prudent to cut back, just in case.
After I started taking Eliquis, I reduced my E and fish oil from daily to 3 times a week, and staggered so I'm not taking both the same day.
No issues with cuts and scrapes, blood draws or blood test results. So far so good.

2 ReactionsWhy would you wait until June to ask your cardiologist if this is an issue; you should call the office and ask to speak to the physician immediately or if you have a "my chart" messaging system, you can seek advice with a two day turn around at the worst. You don't have to wait for an appointment when something is concerning regarding meds and interactions.
