Persistent DVT: What helps get rid of blood clots and pain?

Posted by belka @belka, Feb 25, 2022

Hi everyone, I am new here. I tried to search for this topic, but couldn't find anything. I had 1st shot of Pfizer in the first week of August, 2021. I got extremely sick few hours later, and to this day I still struggle with side effects (almost 7 months at this point). 4 weeks later I went to receive 2nd shot, but was denied because side effects didn't go away. 5 weeks later (beginning of September) from the day of 1st dose, I developed a blood clot. I didn't go to the ER, even though the pain was unbearable. I thought I injured my leg in my sleep because I have nightmares. I did try to reach my primary to let him know what's going on, but was not able to talk to him for another 2 weeks. Once he called me back, he ordered emergency ultrasound, and they found a blood clot. BTW, I had no idea how painful blood clots can be. My doctor put me on Eliquis 5mg right away. I had a follow up ultrasound the end of November, 2021, and the diagnosis is "". Had anyone experienced blood clots after the vaccine, and if so, what did you do that helped? It still hurts so much that I barely can walk around my apartment, forget about taking walks. What can help with the pain? What else can help to get rid of it faster? I already struggle so much with other side effects, and blood clot is really adding to it. I had blood test done recently. My MCV and MCH are high, and I never had this problem before. I am also pretty low on vitamin D (understandably, since I can't take my walks anymore).

I am so sorry to hear of your suffering. My reaction was different (severe anemia requiring blood transfusions and iron infusions), but we all react differently. It is doubly troubling because others tend to dismiss that the symptoms are related to the vaccines. This forum is really helpful--you are not alone.

Hi Belka,

I've had a history of blood clots for reasons other than the vaccines. Based on the fact that you seem to still be having swelling and pain, I'd suggest that you go the ER. At the very least, call your doctor tell him/her that you are still having problems. You shouldn't still be having such symptoms with routine care for the prevention of blood clots once the initial clot (s) have been resolved.

Then, also get an appointment with a hematologist and make sure that they check for other possible blood disorders.

Please don't wait on this.

Best,
Carrie

do you think this was from the vaccine?

@belka, I wanted to check in with you. I completely agree with @carriebythesea @jls44512 and @smarly. Whether the clot was caused by the vaccine or not, clots must be taken seriously and require medical attention.

Have you talked to your doctor about compression stockings? Might you be able to request a phone or virtual appointment to get help with the pain and mobility issues?
