My wife is blacking out for a few seconds in the morning
My wife was diagnosed with Parkinson’s two years ago. She has balance issues but is able to walk unassisted, until recently. Twice in the last few months she got very dizzy, then appeared to pass out. Both times resulted in a fall, once while seated at the dining table where she fell out of her chair, then again this morning while standing at the bathroom sink. When she came to she had no recollection of falling. Is this common with Parkinson’s, or is there something else going she should be checked for? Thanks in advance.

Hello @markdh, and welcome to the PD support group on Mayo Clinic Connect. While balance and vertigo issues can be part of a PD diagnosis, I would certainly contact her doctor as soon as possible to report these falls. You say that when she comes to, she has no recollection of falling. How long before she "comes to?" This is also important information to give to the doctor when you report this.
In the meantime, it would be best if she had a walker or other assistive device beside her to minimize the risk of falls.

Was your wife injured at all with these falls you described?

2 ReactionsHello (@markdh. I would take your wife to her neurologist who’s treating her Parkinson’s. They need to run a test before finding out why she’s “passing out”; the doctor needs to order a test if needed. I would think that the doctor would order a EEG ((electroencephalogram) to exclude seizure activity. Anyhow it would be wise to consult with a physician.

3 ReactionsSo the doctor visit went well. She's been scheduled for a brain MRI, a visit to a cardiologist for an ultrasound, and will make an appointment with her neurologist for an exam. Personally, I now don't think it's a Parkinson's issue at all, but a hydration issue. She'll have lab work done for that too.
I appreciate the support here. I'll post again when I have some new information.
