Biliary Duct Obstruction & Roux en Y Gastric Bypass

Posted by josephpreid @josephpreid, Mar 22, 2024

After a routine blood test, I was diagnosed with high liver enzymes. Fast forward to an ED visit, overnight hospital stay for observation, and being told my local hospital can't remove the 3 stones in my biliary duct because of my Roux en Y gastric bypass. I'm waiting on an appointment with a sub-specialist at another local hospital for treatment.

I'm curious if anyone has encountered biliary duct obstructions and how their procedure to remove them after gastric bypass went.

Thanks!

I had my gallbladder removed many years prior to Roux en Y gastric bypass surgery due to gallstones.

Just wondering if they stones are gallstones ?

Not sure. I had my gallbladder removed AFTER my Roux en Y gastric bypass. The doctors said since my gallbladder was inflamed at the time of removal and how long ago it was removed, there may be leftover gallstones. I guess I'll know after they're removed.

I had an RNY about 25 years ago and my gallbladder removed about 15 years ago, I was getting a ct scan to see if I had a twisted intestine and they noticed a 5 in x4 in tumor on my liver I went and had biopsy and was told it was cancer
I know this is a rare cancer, I’m about 6 months into chemo treatment, I have never been a big drinker or had hepatitis so that ruled out. They said after my first dose of chemo the tumor had went down to about 4in but they had nothing good to say about the bile duct
I’ll have another ct in March hopefully it will be good news

I'm almost a year out from having the stones removed endoscopically. The found a large polyp on my duodenum and removed it via robotic surgery. They'll look at the surgery site in a few months to make sure all of the non-cancerous polyp was removed. It's been quite a journey.
