big 3 and scared
I was diagnosed with pneumonia at the same time with MAC and Bronchiectasis in late August. I was treated for 2 weeks with Doxycycline and the then Azithromycin and Ethambutol. In December I went to MD 2 days before Christmas with aches, cough and slight fever. They checked me for the flu and was negative. I had checked before going to MD for Covid and was negative. After the flu test the nurse asked if she. Oils do. CPR and Isai’s yes. They had me stop my thx and take doxycycline gain for 2weeks. Within 2 days of doxycycline I felt great. So I was very surprised together a call a few days after the holiday and told that I had tested positive for Covid so I finished the doxycycline and then restarted my treatment for Mac and Bronchiectasis. Since being first treated with doxycycline and the new treatment, I feel so much better. I am not as SOB as I was and maybe cough 1x a week. I met with MD and he wants to start me on Arikayce I was telling him that I’m really feeling good and I have petrified to take it and also the fact of the length of time to put the side each day for the treatment which is can be up to 20 minutes for your inhaler take it apart, clean it and then boil it for five minutes. I am very scared of this and I requested him to do another CAT scan earlier by two weeks, I also cannot produce sputum so he wants to have the sailing force done at the hospital to see what the sputum shows. If I’m feeling is good do you think it’s necessary that I take the third medication?
Thank you in advance for any information you make give me to help me with my decision.

@nanasue5 Welcome to our support group from one Sue to another. I am curious as to why you are being treated with two antibiotics instead of the typical three.
Did they obtain a sputumsample to determine exactly which Mycobacterium you are infected with, and which drugs it is sensitive to? Also, did they teach you how to do airway clearance each day to help clear your lungs?
Finally are you seeing a pulmonologist familiar with MAC and Bronchiectasis for your care?
Seen infection control doctor rated very highly. He started me out on these drugs first and it’s approaching six months and now he wants to put me on air Arikayce.
I
No I don’t cough. Don’t know how to clear lungs. I feel like there I feel like there’s nothing in there. I’m not breathing this hard. I’m not sweating. I’m not fatigued. My CAT scan scanned five 5 1/2 months ago so this is what I had but then I had two bouts of pneumonia at the same time and was treated with Dr. cycling and now and then after the treatment of that I was put back on azithromycin and ethambutol. I seriously feel better and my breathing is not like it was.
