What are the ways to get out of a-fib? Thank you!

I was diagnosed with Afib and then after about 2 months I had a cardioversion that got me out of Afib, and then 2 months later pulse field ablation. Hasn't been that long since the PFA, but at my checkup last week everything was great.

Some use the Valsalva method (you can go to YouTube and/or google and it will be demonstrated). Some dunk their head in cold tap water (yes, it's true, and they swear it works quite well most often). Some just get up and move around. Sometimes putting your mind on something else at least makes you feel better. Some exercise, like going for a brisk walk or a jog.
The previous responder has listed another method, but it means a trip to the local ER. Sometimes cardioversions work, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they work for months or permanently, other times they work for just a day or even less. You'll find out how they work for you if you elect to try one.
Some bend over, while seated, and let their upper body and head sag fully between their knees, bent right over, and stay there until they feel a shift, or sometimes when they sit up again their hearts lurch back into NSR.
Just a word of caution, in case this is news to you: (I'm not a medical expert or practitioner, just someone who has self-educated on heart arrhythmias) If you are fibrillating, you should both consult a physician AND be on an anti-coagulant. There is a higher risk of stroke when fibrillating, and for some days and even weeks after you resume normal sinus rhythm.

I tried cardioversion it worked for a few weeks but the afib returned. I tried all the youtube methods to no avail. I didnt want to be on blood thinners for the rest of my life so I had an ablation 7 years ago. It worked great for that whole period. November of 2024 the afib returned. I had another ablation done in January 2025. Since February I have beem in sinus rythym. Hopefully it lasts!

Get to a doctor. AFIB can cause a stroke and you don't want to mess around. Either go on blood thinners or get the ablation. Its an easy out pation surgery. Checked in at 11AM was home by 7 that night. Normal routine sans exercise for a week but no real recovery.

Like others have said, PFA is effective. I spent 10 months with paroxysmal afib, very symptomatic. I used metoprolol 37.5 mg followed 45 minutes later by flecainide. It is called pill in the pocket. It always worked within 80 minutes of taking the flecainide. There are risks to it, you can't have coronary artery disease. The last time I had to do it, 5 days before my ablation in May, my heart stopped for 6 seconds. That was interesting. I always monitored myself with my wellue so I could see when I flipped. I could always tell because my heart would stop for about 2 seconds and then my chest pain would go away. I found using diltiazem didn't work as well as the metoprolol. I couldn't tolerate metoprolol when I wasn't in afib, my heart rate would go in the 30s when I was up and about and I would find myself going down. I don't know if there are too many PFAs getting done these days or not, but I'm so glad I got mine. My heart is so much better, it feels great to be able to exercise again.

I’m a little concerned about your heart stopping for 6 seconds. That happened to me in the hospital when I was converted with metoprolol tartrate and my heart paused for 8 seconds. They told me that I needed a pacemaker, because I wouldn’t be able to safely converted, because my heart might stop and not start again. So they admitted me and I got one two days later. Before that, my heart wanted to go slow too. Now my pacemaker is set to keep it at 60 bpm, and I can safely take medication at home to convert myself at home. I feel so much better with my heart rate up. I don’t know if any of that will help you but I really hope so. I hope your doctors will figure out what you need and you will feel better soon.

I’ve just recently got it to stop by relaxing and doing tapping.
My Afib comes after midnight.
So lately before bed, I’ve been doing lymphatic massage starting at the ankles legs arms chest, around the ears and neck and then finally the stomach. Then I have to go pee!!
Then I do tapping on the face and collar bone. Finally diaphragmatic breathing for 3-5 cycles.
I fall asleep right after that with no Afib all night. So far so good. Fingers crossed

Thanks for the good advice! I’m just starting my journey, with being diagnosed, wiyh A-Fib! I am very concerned about having a stroke! Both my Mom and Dad died of strokes, a few years ago, and last year, my sister died of a stroke!

With your family history I wouldn’t mess around. Make sure you know your Chads score. If you don’t have a great cardiologist who specializes in heart rhythm then do your research and find one.
There are treatment options available check out watchman implants, drugs and ablations.
Good luck!
