Best nebulizer for MAI

Posted by wabashacabin @wabashacabin, Jun 7 9:37am

Diagnosed 2.5 years ago with MAI. Totally asymptomatic and watching and waiting. I see Dr Miller at USF in Tampa.
I have a Medline neb machine and use the LC Sprint cup and tubing. I would like a more efficient been machine, quieter if possible. Can you help me???

The Ombra is around 60 decibels. SaveRiteMedical.com sells it. It works with the LC Sprint cups.

Thank you. Is it quiet?
I neb 3ml 2.5 Albuterol and 4ml of 7% saline.
I need something that doesn't take me an hour to do if possible.
I appreciate any suggestions. ♥️

None of the Compressors are quiet. Just some are less loud than others. I use the Ombra and it is "less loud" than the first compressor I used and it is a workhorse.

A bit of information: Airway clearance does take time, requires persistence and patience. I'm certain others would agree that it is frustrating the amount of time spent with doing it. However, the payoff with clearer airways, less infections and complications is worth it for a better quality of life.

Thank you so much. I saw my pulmonologist yesterday and respiratory therapist and both said Oombra.
I'll be ordering soon.

It's very time consuming. How much time do you spend? Sometimes my sessions go to 60 minutes. Would like it to be 20-30!

My sessions always go a good hour twice a day (sigh). It does eat into my time as I am a busy "doer" type of person and I grow tired of it interrupting my days and the things I am always wanting or needing to do.

However, it does not take long for me to look back and realize how much better I feel and how much more I can do now to just "put up and shut up" 🙂 It's better than the alternative!

I'm grateful I am asymptomatic and that I only have to do once a day. I'm really not complaining, I have dealt with issues my whole life and this is one I will deal with like the others. I pray they will come up with some meds that can help everyone.
God bless all of you. Thank you for your help.

I also have MAI. Diagnosed in August of 2022. I am curious due to your stating you are asympotomatic with MAI. For me I lost about 30 lbs before I was diagnosed. So for me at this time it is the weight loss with the need to regain weight and what follows are the only symptoms I have. Symptom: A feeling, such as a feeling of a lump of some substance, at the back of my throat.....that constantly comes up to my throat and causes me to want to clear it out every minute of the day. That is how it is for me. It is worse after I eat anything.
Is that how it is for you, the need to constantly clear the throat????

Hi... I do not have that yet and no coughing or weight loss, etc. I also have Hashimotos so lots of aches and pains from that.
So far I have been doing airway clearance daily with Albuterol and 7% saline. So far so good.
I'll have another CT in October and just turned in another sputum culture. I pray I don't have to start Antibiotics, but will take one day at a time. I know whatever the outcome, God will see me through it.
I hope you stay well🙏
God bless ✝️

I've been following the exchanges on which nebulizer would be preferred, which, of course, gets to be quite confusing. I've been using my old Omron Micro Air portable (hand held) nebulizer for years for Ipratropuim Bromide, and more recently, for 7% saline. It seems to be working just fine for these - makes a fine mist. Is there something I might be missing, something I might not be noticing?
