Best Meal for CKD that meets nutritional restrictions

Posted by happilyalive @happilyalive, Dec 21, 2025

Hi, I'm having issues in keeping my meals in the right amounts of potassium, sodium, phosphorus, protein, calcium and carbs. I can't eat eggs, beef, fish, tofu or soy. I'm curious as to what each of you would suggest for a breakfast, lunch or dinner that meets the strict Renal Diet parameters. Pitch an idea to me please.

I am using Gemini AI. Enter your blood work results, then ask questions about everything and anything. I'll know if this works on 27Jan26, which will be six months from the date that my Primary Care Provider informed me that my blood work results indicated an eGFR of 60. She referred me to a Kidney Specialist; however, as of this writing 28Dec25, there has been nary a word from VA or any one else except the bountiful source of wisdom that I have received fromGemini AI.

Thank you for letting me know that. I had never heard of Gemini AI nor thought of it. Does it cost anything to use? Please update me/us on this site on how it goes on January 27, 2026. It will be interesting to hear your thoughts again at that time. Hopefully the VA will get you some help regarding the eGFR soon. I know that some doctors do nothing until it hits stage 3 in kidney disease. Yours is ahead of the game and that is wonderful. The sooner help is began the better. Have a Happy New Year and stay safe.

Hello Everyone,

I am currently looking for a renal dietcian, the on closest to me is booked until May 2026. In the meantime I've been trying to manage on my own.

My eGFR is 19 dropped from 25 over a few months.

Any meal and renal dietcian suggestions would be great I live in NY (Hudson Valley)

It helps tremendously. Thank you for the link. I'm going to jump into it tomorrow to celebrate the first day of the year with doing research and learning. I HIGHLY appreciate it. Even though I have a dietician I can always research in case another one is needed at some point and to save this information for others. Have a Happy New Year and thank you again even though it wasn't especially for me.

Hi @happilyalive I just read through this discussion start to present. We have some things in common. I am diabetic and have Stage 3 CKD. I also looked at your profile. I am a Christian believer too.
You said that you “can’t eat eggs, beef, fish, tofu or soy”. Could you elaborate on why? Just wondering if it is health related, personal preferences or other reason. I’ve got meal ideas I’d be happy to share but I want to understand your criteria first.

Hi, I'm glad that you wrote. You are right that we do seem to have several thing in common. Small world, huh? 🙂 Anyway, the reason I can't eat eggs is that I'm allergic to them. Beef I avoid due to hypertension reasons and my doc told me not to eat it. Fish and tofu I absolutely hate with a passion and as for soy the same is true in that it upsets my stomach for some reason. How about you? Sharing meal ideas is perfect. Thank you for that. Since I can't share email here then maybe you can private message me. That would keep the board free for others to use but I'm certain that some would still love your ideas also. Information and advice is always helpful. Just know that I appreciate it. Are you also following the Renal Diet?
