Bempedoic acid instead of statins?
Has anyone been prescribed bempedoic acid to lower cholesterol, LDL & Lipoprotein A? I started using Livalo (pitavastatin) but I have noticed it is affecting the motility in my bowel movements. I have never been constipated and just like that I needed to take Colace and Myralax. It id mentioned in the literature that constipation is one of the most noticeable side effects of statins.
I have been eating very healthy ( Mediterranean diet), no sweets, no sodas or alcohol. I drink 6 8-oz glasses of water everyday. I used to walk 1 mile or more everyday but I had a very bad episode of Covid for the first time which made me very weak and with no energy at all. I didn’t exercise for one month in December. Now that I feel better I am starting to walk like I did before. Let me know if anyone is taking bempedoic. Thank you in advance. Stay healthy and safe.

Yes, I have been on Nexletol for 3 years. I have not experienced one side effect, and it is working ok with Repatha to lower my cholesterol. My LDL is not where they want it, but much better than it was before these 2 meds.
A warning - the only big side effect is having to get a prior authorization from insurance. It is expensive. I hope you can try it with some free samples from your doctor…better to see if you have side effects before buying a supply. Esperion has a coupon program, but it is not as generous as others.

Has your prescription been expensive?
Bempedoic was just mentioned. I don’t think I will go there. It has worse side effects than the statins. The cost is around $439 but the physician should call your insurance to see if it covers it. Also you might ask if the pharmaceutical representative has some discount forms to fill out. I decided to keep on with my Mediterranean regime and everything I have been doing right to keep my lipids down.
