Autoimmune and allergy
Hello, I'm curious; has any one heard or read the thought that Autoimmune illness may be an effect of allergies and that an antihistamine may be helpful??

It's interesting that you should write about the auto immune system and allergies. I was thinking of trying an anti histamine because of the reaction I have had to some injections I had in my scalp. They think I have discoid lupus and gave me injections which have had a horrible effect. My hair has fallen out in a big clump and I have itching all over my scalp which is now much worse than it originally was. My husband was suggesting I try an anti histamine.
I was diagnosed with lots of environmental allergies at 18 and did allergy shots for a short time. At 22 I was diagnosed with SLE (Lupus.) At about 40 I was diagnosed with (fragrance) contact allergies, but suspect those reactions started at about 30. And at 42 I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. I had a stem cell transplant in June so now I'm wondering how that may affect my allergies. I'd say there's a good chance that they're all connected but the connection would probably be a disfunctional immune system. In regards to itchy scalp and hair loss – I'd look into contact allergies and those are rarely helped by antihistamines, you have to stop using products that trigger it and avoiding fragrance in household products is very hard.
I am going to try patch testing with my dermatologist and I also have an appointment with the rheumotologist. Thank you for your thoughts. One of my dermatologists thinks I have discoid lupus plus my nerves are misfiring which is a neurology problem. I shall keep on looking into all of these things.
