Astepro Nasal Spray

No. I have not heard of it. Is it something new? Would like to get feedback if someone has used.

My wife has serious sinus congestion and uses Afrin but that is not supposed to me used on an ongoing basis.

@firespooks, Hey There! I actually posted a while back about Astepro. I had some rough side effects.

I had bloody mucus with it and actually thought I had a sinus infection. It cleared up after I stopped using it.
I have not used it since.

It may work for you. I found Flonase worked for me much better.

I use both Astepro and generic Flonase at bedtime. The Flonase is often good for my clogged sinuses. More recently it has only been working until about 2 or 3 am. I recently bought one of those Navage things. For the past two or three weeks I have been clearing out the sinuses with the Navage, then spaying with Flonase. With the Navage I noticed a yellowish mucus after using it. Just within the past two or three days, I am noticing no more yellowish mucus and staying relative sinuses free of congestion.

@firespooks I have a wonderful trifecta - seasonal allergies, asthma, and bronchiectasis (a lung disease). Astepro (azelastine) has been great for me.

In combination with Flonase, Xyzal (antihistamine tablet once a day), Mucinex (to thin mucus) and Symbicort it keeps my asthma and allergies under control.

What this means for me is zero exacerbations requiring hospitalization/antibiotics/steroids. I realize that not everyone has this experience, but keeping inflammation and irritation at a minimum improves my quality of life. For example, I just returned from a 4 hour hike in an urban forest, with lots of blooming plants like ragweed, grasses, goldenrod, thistles - and I can breathe freely and without congestion.

My concern with Flonase is that the literature they send with it says- If you have, or have had cataracts, or Glaucoma (which don't have but I am be monitored for) you need to talk to your Doctor before using this Rx. My Eye MD who recently did cataract surgery on me said to try it, because now watch the perfect time for him to watch for increased eye pressure with my post op check ups. That said, if I continue to use it & it does increase the pressure behind my eyes, how would I know except to make frequent visits with my eye md? It doesn't make since to use it, I'm thinking.

@heisenberg34 The nights of no sinus blockages is over. Three days was the magic number. Had to use the Navage again last night.

I've used a classic neti pot and also NeilMed, which seems to get the squirt up higher. Then, upon the advice of my nurse sister-in-law, I bend over from the waist and blow...immediately or sometimes a while later, I get a glob of usually yellow mucus...so it seems evident that I've got recirculating mucus which tends to infection. After reading your experience, I checked out Navage. The kit's pretty pricey, and I didn't understand the seemingly conflicting description, which mentioned increasing the flow but also suction. So which is it? Does is just start the flow-rinse by pushbutton (electric instead of manual) or is it actually sucking gook out of the nose? They seem opposite strategies. Can't find a proper explanation on their website. Thanks!

Ya can use Azelastine and Flonase together. Works great. OTC.
Azelastine also comes in rx stronger version.

@fever1 My pulmonologists have me using both Flonase and Azelastine together, the prescription version is the same strength as OTC. The difference between them is copay - the Rx costs me $5/month as an asthma med under my insurance, the cheapest OTC version is about $12.
