Are there any discussions for chronic pain?

I would love to hear more about your experience with Buprenorphine. I have been taking hydrocodone at increasing dosages for about 3 years. I have undiagnosed chronic pain. My dr has talked about converting me to the Butrans (sp?) patch but I’m hesitant because I like having control over how much medicine I am taking and when I take it if that makes sense. I would really appreciate hearing your experience with it.

No constipation since I drink water throughout my day, always have. Plus my go to snack is fruit. No trouble staying awake or other negatives. I’m an old hippie and have used cannabis since my teens.

I have not had that many, but quite a few. The very first one gave some relief for about 2 weeks. Then, nothing. Ever snce, none have helped. I just had another round a week ago...again, no help. It remnds me of the old saying about insanity: doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different outcome. Ha! Why don't I learn?
Why did you keep having injections if they didn't help? Just desperate and hopeful, like me? lol.

Yes, i always thought the next one would work. Somatic therapy has helped, along with meditation and mindfulness. I have read 4 books and a meditation tape. Dr. shubiNer on u tube ,a nd others explains somatic thinking.

Butrans is the brand name for Buprenorphine administered via a patch that delivers 24/7 pain relief. Not having to worry about remembering or forgetting doses. I was also able to stop using Percocet for breakthrough pain by substituting medical cannabis. I use tincture CBD 150mg 4x day and THC 20mg 4x day. I tried higher THC and lower CBD but no effect on breakthrough pain. Good luck with Butrans.

You’d have to google, but I read that buprenorphine is not only addictive but it is difficult to come off of, and also I read that it can cause dental decay. Best to you. Also, I personally tried buprenorphine patch to replace Fentanyl 25mg patch and I did not find sufficient pain relief for MY pain, and was on it for at least a year and had to switch back. But now I’m not treated. I‘d like to find a place that would allow cannabis with opiates like that because cannabis for appetite (absent due to pain) keeps me out of pain management. It’s due to cannabis testing, which is not helpful in pain mgmt, imo if it keeps patients from receiving pain care. Good luck to you.

The formulation you are looking at is for addiction medicine treatment not chronic pain control. Look up Butrans specifically or stick with transdermal system. I think I sent you this but maybe not. Please read it in detail as it had more info about treatment for pain mainly. It is much safer than most other narcotic meds and especially with the transdermal system.

Yes I am theraphy, yes I still have chronic nerve pain from my neck to my feet! My stomach feels like it’s wrap with duct tape, I have to cath to piss, and only because I went plant base only do I have Better bowl movement, my sexual functions cease to work, I hate my life now, I went to Panama and spent $30,000 for stem Cell and so far nothing! And not one person on my medical team have offered me any hope of relief! I been working my ass off to come back from being completely paralyzed! People tell me to be grateful you can now walk, but what about the chronic pain I live with from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep! Why would anyone want to suffer through this, I am just saying if all this is a place to bitch and there is no solution for people what’s the point of this support group! What you want to pat me on the back and tell me good job, before this happened to me, I had the woman of my dreams, I was surfing waves over six stories and in the ocean 6 hours a day doing things I loved to do! Now I walk like a cripple and suffer from morning to night!
Not the way I want to spend the rest of my life! I will fight a while longer but if change can’t happen then I will move in and people should be alright with it!

Pretty bad stuff. Terrible what you have gone through. My piddling chronic pain pales in comparison to your situation. My only recommendation is tovseek a pain specialist who is involved with the morphine pain pump. You have a trial during which the doc injects morphine(very tiny dose) into the space around the spinal cord. Then you wait for about 15 minutes or so to see if the morphine quiets and calms the nerves coming out of the spnal cord. They may have to do a second trial with a different med if the morphine doesn't help, as was the case in my trial. Within five minutes of getting the second shot (a week later) I could feel the pain draiing out of my lower back, buttocks, and feet. So, I went ahead and did the permanent implant. Now, to be honest, the permanent implant has not worked as well as the trial, but still provides decent relief. That's about all I've got for you. Except that I will say a sincere prayer that God directs you to the right doctor to get the help you need.

@excentrk hello. I am new here. Just joined connect 2 days ago
I am SO fatigued from constant pain as well. I too take tramodol. I have for the last 5 years, but 50 mg tablets. I now take 2 per day. Sometimes they help my excruciating chronic back pain. Sometimes they don’t
I sustained 7 spinal compression fractures 6 years ago, due to severe osteoporosis from taking prednisone for many years for a chronic illness, ulcerative colitis . Had 2 surgeries (kyph) which did help a lot. But I am still left with back pain every day. It has been a monumental struggle. For the first two years I could only walk with a walker. Now I can walk half an hour at a time, sometimes one hour, w/o walker, then take a tramodol and rest. I only use the walker first thing in the AM, to help me out of bed
I wish I knew other people who have suffered compression fractures so I could find out what works for them

Hello, ,I also from terrible thoracic pain. I had three compression fractures from osteoporosis, but I never had any pain until a chiropractor decided to press down on both sides after I showed him the MRI and asked him not to touch that area a few yrs ago. I had kyphoplasty after that but I didn’t get that much released because they were old fractures Then recently the pain has really increased I like you really don’t know what to do. I take hydrocodone 7.5 and I am taking 4 to 5 a day. I also have cervical problems and lumbar issues after five spinal fusions. . I do take Prolia shots for Osteoporosis and I’m due for another bone density next year. I am 68 but my pain has become progressively worse. Do you have a good pain management doctor and I’m having an epidural in the T 11-12 L 1 this week for a slipped disc in the L1 area but the pain is higher. I was wondering what type of brace you use.? Not sure if you read anything but I’m the one who went to scolicare for a possible brace, but it seems it’s more of a scam doctors are saying unless you’re a younger person with bad scoliosis…. Is it this is a very hard plastic brace that is molded to you, which can cause more damage than help for an adult. I know this probably isn’t much hope to you, but I know you were looking to talk with someone who has compression fractures…..good luck…

I’m done going to pain clinics. They can no longer help me. I’ve become immune to hydromorphone. It’s like taking Tylenol now because I have been taking it for too long. I’m allergic to morphine, and I get sick from Oxycodone. Pain pumps/pain stimulators don’t work with my type of pain per four doctors. I’m at a loss because I don’t get relief of any kind and my pain level is worse then torture.

I’m in the same boat! I’ve been smoking since I lost my appetite last fall. Twice I’ve tested positive for thc. But my pain management doctor knows my appetite is depressed and the weight I’ve lost. He prescribed Remoran ?sp? which is a appetite stimulant he prescribes for his cancer patients. It did nothing for me but maybe it could work for you. Since I was tested a couple months ago I probably won’t need another until next year but I need to stop now. Looks like it’s likely I’ll need spine surgery but praying it’s not that bad
